Monk dies from heat after drunk cop crashes into electricity pole causing outage
A monk with lung problems died from heat after a drunk police man drove his car into an electricity pole, causing a power outage.
The outage meant that fans in the sweltering Surin province in northeast Thailand wouldn't work, causing Phra Boon Chad from Wat Chai Prakom temple to succumb to the heat.
The 58-year-old was found naked in his bed by police on Friday morning (May 5), reports in Thailand stated.

The Taiger reported that his colleagues were alerted when he "did not join his fellows on their daily alms round, which he never usually misses".
It's thought that he was found naked because he had stripped off during the night for some relief from the heat.
In his room, police found inhalers and various medicines and his fellow monks said that he had a lung disease, which made the conditions more troubling for him.
Another monk at the temple said that Phra Boon Chad had complained during the day that he was hot and struggling to breathe without the fan turned on.
He then returned to his room when his colleagues grew suspicious when he didn't re-emerge. One took food to his room and made the harrowing discovery.

Police are reportedly in the process of charging an officer who drove into an electricity pole around half a mile away from the temple.
The monks were unaware of why the electricity went out when it did, and only found out later on.
Breathing in hot, humid air can exacerbate respiratory conditions like asthma and COPD, according to the American Lung Association.
"The heat increases metabolic demands, which might not be a problem for a conditioned, heat-adapted athlete, but could be deadly for someone with advanced heart or lung disease who is barely getting by," said Dr. Brian Christman, medical spokesperson for the American Lung Association.
