Mum identified after dead baby is found on Canford Heath | The Sun

THE mum of an unborn child found dead on a heath has been identified and is "safe and well", police said.

Cops had been searching for her since the body was found at Canford Heath, Poole, Dorset, at 3.50pm on Thursday.

It is not being treated as a criminal matter and police say the mother is "receiving all the support she needs".

The heathland was cordoned off for several hours as forensic teams swept the scene after the body was found.

A police helicopter was also seen scouring the area.

Multiple police cars and an ambulance were said to have attended,

Cops launched an appeal to find the mother, and have confirmed she has now been located.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "Following the appeal, the mother has been identified and officers have ensured she is receiving all the support she needs.

"This is not being treated as a criminal matter and our thoughts are with the mother at this extremely difficult time.

"We would like to thank the public who provided information in response to our appeal, as well as the local community for their support while there was an increased emergency services presence in the area.
