Mystery over death of popular mum whose body washed up on Blackpool beach | The Sun

THE death of a mum whose body washed up on Blackpool beach a month after she disappeared has been branded a "mystery".

Bernadette Mary Connolly was last seen on January 7 being dropped off by a taxi at the Shoreline Hotel in Donabate, Ireland.

The 39-year-old was seen walking towards the entrance to the beach where she took a photo of Malahide Bay at 12.38pm.

Bernadette's family reported her missing and her coat and bag were later discovered on the beach.

Tragically her body washed up on Blackpool beach on February 4.

An inquest heard how Bernadette's death has been described as a "mystery" with police ruling out any suspicious circumstances or evidence of third-party involvement.

Due to the "extensive decomposition" of her body, a post mortem was unable to establish a cause of death.

Her family are adamant she didn't take her own life and said the Dublin Airport worker had no mental health issues.

The mum's GP told the hearing she had "never expressed anything about ending her own life".

Bernadette had "lots to look forward to" – including a new career after she accepted redundancy during the pandemic.

On the day she was last seen alive, Bernadette made breakfast and had a cup of tea with her parents at around 10.30am.

She said she "fancied going out" and was seen getting out the taxi at the hotel at around 11.50am.

Her belongings were found at 5pm and the alarm was raised.

Recording a narrative verdict, Senior Coroner Alan Wilson said: "She had some long-standing medical issues but she had no long-standing history of mental health issues.

"This lady had a lot to look forward to; she had a new career, she didn't have any financial concerns, she had a loving family, she had enjoyed a nice Christmas and she had recently paid her health insurance.

"Did she die as a result of her own actions or did she intend to end her life? I cannot say that."

Paying tribute to her mum, Bernadette's daughter Jade said she was "intelligent, independent and kind".

She added: "Our bond is unbreakable, it is so, so strong. We're the best of friends who shared many laughs, many cries, highs and lows.
