Nicola Sturgeon breaks cover one week on after her arrest amid SNP cash probe | The Sun

NICOLA Sturgeon has appeared for the first time since she was arrested amid the police probe into SNP finances.

The former-First Minister was arrested last Sunday morning but was later released without charge pending further enquiries.

The former-Nats leader returned home for the first time one week on from her arrest.

She was dropped off in a chauffeur-driven motor for the brief press call outside her home.

Looking tired and drawn, she said: “Hello everyone, thanks for coming along on Father’s Day. Happy Fathers Day to the dads amongst you.

“You know I can’t say very much just now.

“What I will say is I reiterate the statement I made last Sunday.

“I am certain that I have done nothing wrong.

“I intend to back in parliament in the early part of the week and I will make myself available for questions then.

“For now, I intend to go home and catch up with some family."

The Glasgow Southside MSP added: “I know I’m a public figure, I accept what comes with that.

“I’m also a human being that’s entitled to a bit of privacy."

Asked if she would stand down from the SNP, she replied: “Look, I’ve done nothing wrong and that is the only thing I’m going to assert today.”

She said no conditions had been placed on her after her arrest.

When asked if ‘Nicola Sturgeon would have suspended Nicola Sturgeon’ – a statement made by Tory leader Douglas Ross, she replied: “I’ve done nothing wrong, it’s for others to comment as they see fit.

“That’s my position and I intend to stick to it.”

Police are currently investigating a 'missing' nearly £500,000 earmarked for an Independence campaign.

Nicola Sturgeon's husband Peter Murrell was arrested in April as part of the investigation.

The couple's home was thoroughly searched by police and SNP HQ in Edinburgh was also trolled through by officers.

And former-treasurer Colin Beattie was also arrested as part of the probe.

Both men were released without charge pending further enquiries.
