A police force who said it was ‘hateful’ to call a legally-male trans paedophile a man wants a system where criminals can be recorded as no-gender or other identities.
Sussex Police released a humiliating apology last night after it sparked a row defending Sally Anne Dixon, 58, when the sex offender was called a man by women online.
But MailOnline can reveal the under-fire constabulary has loftier plans that would cut out both male and female terminologies.
The police force – which has its own gender identity and expression page – says it wants to go beyond binary options.
Instead it says it is putting into place new crime recording systems that will go beyond the biologically-recognised sexes.
A Sussex Police document declares: ‘The Home Office require us to capture demographic information which they use to monitor crime trends.
‘Therefore we record the gender of people that interact with us. Often we are only able to record binary options of male or female in our systems.
‘We are making changes where we can to include other gender identities as well as using the gender neutral honorific, “Mx”.’
After the furore sparked by Dixon, who has no Gender Recognition Certificate, there was disbelief today after the police plan emerged.
Women’s rights campaigner Kellie-Jay Keen told MailOnline: ‘When you can obscure obvious facts such as biological sex, you leave the system open to abuse.

‘I don’t really understand what on earth they are talking about. They don’t seem to be able to speak in a language that anyone can understand.
‘I think the danger is that when you use the words like gender, no-one really knows what it means – but we do know what biological sex is.
‘I think it’s virtue signalling and wanting to be seen as being inclusive.
‘People want the police to solve crimes – this type of thing doesn’t make people safer.
‘Who on earth has made these decisions like this? Is it someone just trying to justify their position?
‘The fact the police are going on things like this is really worrying. Police playing politics is very dangerous.’

Sussex Police did not request to a request for comment on the new crime recording plans.
But it appears to fly in the face of former Home Secretary Priti Patel’s insistence in October forces should stop recording offences by trans women in female crime statistics.
Home Office officials were at the time working with police forces on a new procedure for officers to record the sex of criminals to ensure crime statistics were ‘more accurate’.
And yesterday the Home Secretary said the force should be focusing on ‘catching criminals’ not ‘policing pronouns’.
Suella Braverman waded into the Twitter storm after the force said they ‘would not tolerate’ any hateful comments towards the gender identity of convicted paedophile Dixon.
Dixon, who was born John Stephen Dixon, was convicted of 30 counts of indecent assaulted which took place in the late 1980s and 1990s.
The abuser was given an 18-year custodial sentence, with an additional two years to be served on extended licence.
Sussex Police tweeted that they: ‘do not tolerate any hateful comments towards their gender identity regardless of crimes committed. This is irrelevant to the crime that has been committed and investigated.’
Ms Braverman MP piled in saying: ‘Sussex Police have done well to put a dangerous criminal behind bars. But they’ve got it wrong by playing identity politics and denying biology. Focus on catching criminals not policing pronouns’
Several hours later the force issued an apology saying their previous tweet was ‘inconsistent’ with their usual style and emphasised the public are allowed to ‘express themselves freely within the boundaries of the law’.
The tweet read: ‘On Monday, 26 September 2022 we reported on the conviction of a sexual predator for historic sex offences in Sussex.
‘The court sentenced Sally Anne Dixon as a woman to 20 years in prison for offences committed against seven children, now adults.
‘We reported factually on the findings of the court which heard that, at the time of the offences, Dixon was living as a man, John Stephen Dixon. The relevant offences were recorded as being committed by a male.
‘An earlier reply to a comment on Twitter was inconsistent with our usual style of engagement; we apologise for this and have removed the comment. We recognise the rights of the public to express themselves freely within the boundaries of the law.’
