This is the NHS nurse who ran over her ex-lover at a rugby club car park in a furious drunken rage.

Rebecca Thomas flew into a rage at her ex-boyfriend David Robinson after spending the night boozing in September last year.

Thomas admitted battery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and dangerous driving at Swansea Crown Court.

Yet she was spared jail and given a suspended sentence – but has been banned from driving.

In September last year the nurse, 37, grabbed and punched her 45-year-old lover inside her car – before a ‘red mist descended’ in the car park and she drove into him. Mr Robinson lay on the floor for almost five minutes before he was found. Jurors were also told that Thomas had never been as ‘drunk as she was on that day’.

CCTV footage shows Mr Robinson trying to leave the grounds when Thomas smashed her car into him from behind, miraculously leaving him with just a black eye and bruising.

Mr Robinson was seen flipping on to the car bonnet before he crashed into the ground at Birchgrove Rugby Club in Swansea, South Wales.

Parked cars can be seen directly in front of him, as he is launched in front of the 37-year-old’s blue vehicle. He then laid there for a few minutes, before being helped up by members of the public.

Speaking about the incident, prosecutor Brian Simpson said: ‘He lies there for about four and a half minutes before passers by come to help him. He then went to his new girlfriend’s house and later to hospital.’

Swansea Crown Court heard how the pair had broken up four months before the row erupted in September last year.

Mr Simpson said: ‘Mr Robinson recalls being in the driver’s seat of the defendant’s car where she grabbed him, punched him, and pulled off his neck chain’.

The court heard Mr Robinson said ‘he had never seen the defendant as drunk as she was on that day’.

Swansea Crown Court heard the pair were both drunk at the time of the incident – and could not recall much of what happened.

In defense for Thomas, Robin Rouch said the 37-year-old had no previous convictions or cautions on her record.

The court heard that Thomas was a nurse by profession and someone who is ‘highly valued’ by her employer.

A ‘red mist descended’ in the car park after the incident, which has seen Thomas be banned from driving for 12 months

Judge Geraint Walters cautioned the pair, saying: ‘You were both heavily under the influence. This incident would not have happened if it was not for that.

‘The reality is having been together that day the red mist descended on you. There was an altercation between you. When he walks off you drive away and you veer the car into him.’

Following the hearing, Thomas admitted to battery, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and dangerous driving.

She was handed a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years and a 30-hour rehabilitation activity requirement.

She was banned from driving for 12 months and must pass an extended driving test.

Thomas must also complete a mental health treatment requirement for one year.
