Ksenia Sobchak, Vladimir Putin's 'goddaughter' and Russia’s leading woman opposition politician is danger of being sent to jail by the Russian leader's police.
The journalist became the youngest Russian presidential candidate in history at 36 and has been accused of “spreading falsehoods about government agencies”, a deed that could place her behind bars for up to three years.
Sobchak, 40, has known Putin since her childhood and her father was the Russian President's law professor at Leningrad State University.

The 69-year-old to many is thought to be her godfather due to his close relationship with her father, Anatoly.
Rumours surrounding Sobchack leaving Russia earlier in the war became widespread but were swiftly put to bed by the TV anchor.
She said: “I am Russian, I am a citizen of Russia, I do not emigrate anywhere, I have no other citizenships.”
“Evidence” of her alleged offence was sent to the Russian Investigative Committee which examines serious crime by the police.

Sobchak is being investigated under an article covering the “public dissemination of deliberately false information about the execution of its authority by a government agency".
This law was legislated after the beginning of the war with Ukraine which comes with a punishment of up to three years in jail.
A TASS report states that Sobchak told police interrogators that she “was ready to assume responsibility as the platform where the falsehood appeared doesn’t have any administrators, and the story had no editors or video directors”.
Despite criticising his politics and running against Putin in the 2018 Russian presidential election, that hasn't soured relations between him and her family.

Putin's kindness towards the family went as far as smuggling her father out of Russia for medical treatment when Sobchak was wanted for alleged corruption.
Ksenia came fourth in the 2018 presidential election in Russia, as she stated at that time: "In a system created by Putin, it is only possible for Putin to win. I am realistic about who will become the president".
