Rats leave woman scared of using garden as town has ‘bigger issue than London’
A woman who lives in a popular seaside resort says she’s scared to leave her own home because of an infestation of “attention-seeking” rats around the town.
Kristine Blagojevic, who moved to Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, from London nearly two years ago says she's seen more rats around the place than she ever did in the capital – and now she’s afraid to venture into her own back garden.
And Kristine says the problem has got so bad that she has got to take her poo bags home with her when she’s walking her dog because she doesn’t dare put her hand too near a bin, reports Grimsby Live.

Kristine said: “I've seen more than I care to mention. They're especially prolific in certain beer gardens and near the boating lake – so much so, I avoid that area like the plague. Occasionally, I have spotted some along the front, too.
"I'm that wary of them that I prefer to bring dog poo bags home rather than risk putting my hand near a bin in case there is one there.”
She said all her rat sightings had been during the day, including one in her garden last weekend.
“I have bought poison, but it's not working so I 'm attempting to repel them by getting my lodger to put used cat litter, bleach and chilli powder by the gate that leads out to the alley,” she added.
“I won't go out in the garden at the minute because of the issues with the rats. I’m shocked at the amount I have seen, leaving me constantly on edge when out with the dog,
“I can understand sightings at a country park but not in busy areas during the day. I can recall seeing only a handful in 20 years of living in London.
“I'm not stupid – I know they are there, but I think Cleethorpes rats are attention seekers."
It’s not the first time recently that Cleethorpes has had an issue with the animals. Last year, people complained about the rodents appearing in the Pier Gardens, where they were brazenly coming out to steal food.
On North East Lincolnshire Council's website, they suggest locals should file a 'vermin report' if they see any rats on public land or in someone else's property.
