The feared Russian Wagner mercenary group has become so desperate for recruits after heavy losses on the battlefields of Ukraine that it has turned to Pornhub to recruit soldiers.

Wagner placed a provocative ad on the porn site in which male viewers were told to stop pleasuring themselves and instead join the private army and fight in Ukraine.

In the since deleted ad, a blonde woman wearing red lipstick is seen seductively sucking a large lollipop while another woman’s voice huskily says in the background: ‘We are the coolest army in the world.’

‘We are recruiting fighters from all regions of Russia. Don’t whack off, go work for PMC Wagner,’ the woman says before the phone number of Wagner recruiters appears in the middle of the screen.

The video was posted on Pornhub and was viewed by viewers in Russia without an ad blocker and VPN before the site removed the ad, reports Pravda.

The ad had been shared by Pornhub users from the Kemerovo and Volgograd regions in Russia, the news outlet reports.

A spokesperson for Pornhub told Newsweek that the ads had been removed and the website does not allow politically related advertisements.

Wagner’s desperate push to recruit more soldiers – even using means such as Pornhub to do so – comes as the mercenary group has suffered heavy losses in Ukraine – especially in the besieged Ukrainian city of Bakhmut.

On Monday, the UK’s Ministry of Defence said Wagner chief Vevgeny Prigozhin had likely lost access to recruiting Russian prisoners ‘due to his ongoing disputes with the Russian MoD leadership’.

Indeed, the MoD added: ‘Prigozhin is highly likely pivoting recruitment efforts towards free Russian citizens.’

Prigozhin said on Friday Wagner had opened recruitment centres in 42 cities as he seeks to replenish its ranks after heavy losses in fighting for Bakhmut.

In recent days, masked Wagner recruits have also given career talks in Moscow high schools and distributed questionnaires entitled ‘application of a young warrior’ to collect the contact details of interested pupils, the UK’s MoD said in Monday’s intelligence briefing.

Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Wagner has deployed 40,000 convicted prisoners to fight in Ukraine, making up the vast majority of the group’s personnel in the country.

About half of those prisoners have likely become casualties in the war, the UK’s MoD said, while the White House put the number at more than 30,000 in a February estimate.

Last month, Prigozhin said he had stopped recruiting prisoners while he feuded with Russia’s military officials about the supply of munitions to his private army.

An ex-convict who did nine years’ jail for theft and street muggings in the 1980s, Prigozhin has emerged from the shadows to assume a high profile since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

But his public profile, political influence, and fondness for profanely lambasting top army brass and anyone else in his way has angered some in government who want him reined in.

Indeed, Prigozhin has continued to demand for Russia to supply him with more ammunition, reinforcements and covering support if he was to win the months-long battle of attrition for Bakhmut.

Last week’s appeal from Prigozhin came amid signs of a deepening rift between him and the defence ministry whom he has bitterly criticised for months and accused of deliberately starving his men of ammunition, an allegation it has rejected.

‘I’m knocking on all doors and sounding the alarm about ammunition and reinforcements, as well as the need to cover our flanks,’ the Wagner chief said in a statement released by his press service.

‘If everyone is coordinated, without ambition, screw-ups and tantrums, and carries out this work, then we will block the armed forces of Ukraine. If not, then everyone will be screwed.’

Prigozhin said earlier last week that his representative had been denied access to the headquarters of Russia’s military command for Ukraine and was still not getting enough munitions despite repeated public complaints.

Prigozhin said his representative had been spurned by the army’s top brass a day after he urgently requested ammunition supplies.

‘On March 5, I wrote a letter to the commander of the SMO (special military operation) grouping about the urgent need to allocate ammunition. On March 6, at 8 a.m., my representative at the headquarters had his pass cancelled and was denied access,’ Prigozhin said via his press service on Telegram.

He noted that Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, the commander-in chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, had said he favoured the continued defence and reinforcement of Bakhmut and said it was obvious that Kyiv would fight for Bakhmut ‘to the end’.

That, he said, meant his men needed to completely surround Ukrainian forces inside Bakhmut.

‘We must do our job to the end too,’ said Prigozhin. ‘But when the whole world gathers around you, you need someone to work with you,’ he added, in an obvious reference to the defence ministry.
