Scaffolder left paralysed after freak trampoline accident as family to 'say goodbye' | The Sun

A SCAFFOLDER was left paralysed from the chest down after a freak trampoline accident.

Rob Harcourt suffered the terrifying fall while in a friend's garden, dislocating his neck and kinking his spinal cord.

The 37-year-old spent weeks in intensive care unable to breathe on his own as medics feared he could be brain damaged.

He also underwent a series of operations, including one to stabilise his neck to prevent any further harm.

Though his family knew he would likely never walk again, they had hoped he would regain consciousness and breathe independently.

However, on Saturday they received the devastating news that he will not recover from his injuries.

Rob's relatives and close friends have now been invited to say their goodbyes before doctors disconnect his breathing machines and he "passes peacefully".

His pal Alan Jones said: "He will pass wrapped in love by his first and last – his mum Jackie and his partner Jade."

Rob, a scaffolder from Stockton, County Durham, was at a friend's house last month when he tripped and fell into a trampoline.

He was rushed to James Cook University Hospital where he later suffered a cardiac arrest and doctors found fluid and swelling on his brain.
