Teen arrested as suspect in shooting death on Interstate 70 in Denver
A teenager has been arrested as a suspect in a fatal shooting on Interstate 70 in Denver.
On Thursday night, Denver and Westminster police took the 17-year-old suspect into custody, according to a Denver police news release. He is being held for investigation of first-degree murder.
On July 31 at about 11 p.m., 31-year-old Kevin Piaskowski was shot by a gunman in a silver truck as he was driving in the westbound lanes of I-70 near the Northfield/Quebec exit.
“At this time, it appears that the victim, Kevin Piaskowski, and suspect were unknown to each other and that the shooting occurred after the suspect was seen driving a stolen Dodge Ram aggressively on the highway,” police said on Friday.
Immediately after the shooting, the suspect was involved in a multi-vehicle crash, including a stolen, white Hyundai Santa Fe, police said. People in the Hyundai fled on foot, and investigators are trying to determine whether they were somehow connected to the suspect, who had also fled the scene on foot.
On Friday police did not release the name of the suspect because he is a juvenile.
