Tesla issues back-to-back recalls, one impacting 322,000 cars with crash risk increase
Tesla has issued back-to-back recalls, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
All Tesla stores and service centers were notified about two separate recalls issued by the company, including one affecting nearly 30,000 Tesla Model X cars in model years 2021 to 2023 that have the potential for their front passenger airbag system to deploy incorrectly during certain low-speed collisions.
According to a NHTSA report, the risk can be solved with a software update free of charge for current owners of the Model X vehicle.
Vehicles in production and in pre-delivery containment received the firmware update that includes the remedy on Nov. 15, the report says.

In a separate report, another recall decision was made after the NHTSA found a combined 321,628 Model 3 vehicles in model year 2023 and Model Y vehicles in years 2020-2023 had the potential to present reduced visibility in dark conditions.
The issue, according to the report, was caused by taillights that intermittently illuminated and risked the increase of collision.
The taillight issue can also be remedied by an over-the-air firmware update, akin to a software patch sent to a computer or smartphone.. The automaker’s proprietary programming allows for continuous updates over-the-air.
So far no injuries or deaths have been reported in connection to either recall.

September Tesla recall: Tesla recalls more than 1 million vehicles because windows can pinch fingers
Earlier this month, Tesla voluntarily recalled more than 40,000 vehicles that could experience a loss of power steering.
That recall, which involves 2017-2021 Model S and Model X vehicles, also requires a software update, NTHSA reported.
An October firmware release caused some vehicles to lose power steering when driving on bumpy roads and over potholes. About 1% of recalled vehicles have the defect, according to the release.
