Furious audience members of The Late Show have slammed Prince Harry for failing to appear in front of the usually scheduled audience.

Disappointed fans of the CBS talk show visibly bristled when they were told by the host that the Duke of Sussex, 38, was not going to appear in front of them.

One loudly said, ‘are you serious’ after Stephen Colbert apologized to the audience for not telling them Harry was not going to be in attendance before claiming it was for security reasons.

Many of the audience had traveled to the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City from all over the state to see the royal, with one woman telling DailyMail.com that it ‘wasn’t worth’ waiting out in the cold.

Harry’s memoir is published today, and his interview with Colbert will air tonight. Many of the audience had traveled to the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City from all over the state to see the royal

The recording of the show, which is set to be aired at 11.30pm tonight, usually lasts for two hours – including a warm-up act.

But those hoping to catch a glimpse of Harry were left disappointed and bewildered when Colbert ended the show an hour before advertised.

One told DailyMail.com: ‘Security issues? Really? It’s not like he’s Prince William or anything – he’s not properly in line to the throne.

‘Who is trying to kill Harry? I’ve been to a lot of these and this has never happened. I’m really surprised.’

Another was heard loudly saying ‘f*** Prince Harry’ as they left the show, with others questioning why the filming had ended so early.

Others said that the filming ‘wasn’t worth waiting an hour in the cold for’, with one woman adding: ‘Who needs prince Harry anyway?

Another was heard loudly saying ‘f*** Prince Harry’ as they left the show, with others questioning why the filming had ended so early.

‘They are just creating their own drama now for the sake of it.

‘If it’s about your family and your safety why are you doing the interview in the first place?’

Harry is currently in the midst of a media blitz to promote his memoir, for which he was reportedly paid a $20 million advance.

His publishers also claimed that Spare became the fastest-selling non-fiction book in the UK on the day it was released.

Staff at the theatre insisted that it had been filmed with a live audience, with a preview clip released by CBS showing Harry referencing working with veterans – before gesturing to the audience.

He even asked if there were some ‘veterans in the house’, which was received by cheers.

The Duke of Sussex also enjoyed a cameo with Tom Hanks at the beginning of the show, with Colbert rolling out a red carpet with trumpets.

Harry’s armed guard

The Glock lock box carried by Prince Harry’s guard usually contains a pistol and ammunition.

It can be configured for any type of handgun.

Unlike in the U.K. – where private armed security is illegal – it is common for security guards to carry firearms in the U.S.

Harry and Meghan are believed to rely on Gavin de Becker and Associates, a private LA firm that charges up to $8,800 per day.

However, the host told Prince Harry to move out of the way, before bowing to Tom Hanks as the royal threw rose petals over him.

In his opening monologue Colbert poked fun at the royal for being the ‘King of Gingers’ and added that the décor was ‘looking royal’.

Before ending the show he quipped ‘maybe next time we could have the King’, with audience members being shown a clip from an upcoming M. Night Shyamalan skit in the studio.

They were not given a sneak preview of the interview, which has been kept under tight wraps by CBS.

Harry was seen on Monday entering the studio with armed bodyguards and drinking tequila with the host before leaving several hours later.

Some fans who did attend the live show previously said that Harry answered a series of questions from the late-night host in his Colbert Questionert segment.

The quiz devised by the liberal comedian and TV host is 15 questions that he says ‘cover the full spectrum of human experience’.

It is not known what Harry answered but people at the studios managed to film a glimpse of the segment where Harry was talking with two tequila shots in front of him which he later downed.

The interview is just the latest the Duke is doing as he works to promote his bombshell memoir, Spare, released on Tuesday.

Harry was accompanied to the Late Night studios on Monday night by a guard carrying a Glock lock-box, used to carry his gun and ammunition.

The prince has become increasingly concerned for his security since moving to the United States, and has frequently said he feels vulnerable.

Dressed in a grey suit and navy shirt, Harry strode from his SUV into the studios to meet Colbert.

The prince was spotted earlier on Monday leaving his luxury Manhattan hotel, where rooms start at $400, rising to $3,500 a night for a suite.

There was no sign of his wife or children, who are believed to be at home in California.
