Two years on from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have, on several occasions, changed the story they originally put forward in the hour-and-a-half long TV special.

The special programme, first shown two years ago in the UK on ITV on March 8, 2021, was broadcast a year after Harry and Meghan announced that they would be stepping back from royal duties.

The not-so-royal couple made several explosive claims in the interview with Oprah Winfrey, many of which they later went back on.

The Daily Star has compiled a list of the biggest statements that Harry and Meghan seem to have gone back on in the two years since the bombshell interview.

Concerns about Archie's skin colour

One of the most explosive allegations made against the Royal Family during the Oprah interview was that a “senior royal” quizzed the couple on how dark the skin of their then-unborn child Archie would be.

They sent shockwaves through the British establishment when they spoke of their disgust at "concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he's born".

The allegation even prompted Prince William to defend the royals, claiming that the Windsors are "very much not a racist family."

But in an interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby earlier this year, Harry said he didn't call the family racist

"The difference between racism and unconscious bias, the two things are different”, he said in the interview, in which he refused to name the accused royal.

"But once it's been acknowledged, or pointed out to you as an individual, or as an institution, that you have unconscious bias, you, therefore, have an opportunity to learn and grow from that in order so that you are part of the solution rather than part of the problem”, he added.

Being blocked from speaking to Queen Elizabeth

Meghan Markle told Oprah during their interview that after she and Harry officially left the Firm, she still called the Queen "just to check in" despite no longer being a working member of the royal family.

In the explosive tell-all Oprah Winfrey interview, the Duchess of Sussex said: "I just pick up the phone and I call the Queen – just to check in.

“That’s what we do, it’s like being able to default to not having to every moment go, ‘Is that appropriate?’”

But just a few years later, the couple said in their Netflix series 'Harry & Meghan' that they were blocked from seeing the Queen.

Speaking of his grandmother, Harry said: "She said, 'I have no plans for the week, why don't you come up and we'll have tea? Stay the night you and Meghan'."

The couple said once the plan was set, they set about flying from Vancouver in Canada to London's Heathrow Airport.

Meghan said in the show: "We were getting on the plane and an urgent message comes through to Harry saying, 'You are not allowed to meet Her Majesty. She has plans, she is busy all week'.”

Harry continued: "I said, 'Wow that's certainly the opposite to what she told me'.

"Once we were back in the UK I rang her and said, 'I'm now told that you're busy' and she said, 'Yes, I didn't know that I was busy'”, he added.

Getting married two days before their actual wedding

Another claim that sparked confusion from Harry and Meghan's interview with Ophrah was that they got married two days before their Windsor wedding in the garden of Kensington Palace.

Meghan told Oprah during the interview: "You know, three days before our wedding, we got married. No one knows that."

“We called the archbishop and we just said, 'Look, this thing, this spectacle is for the world but we want our union between us.' So, the vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our backyard with the archbishop of Canterbury,” she added.

However, in his memoir “Spare”, Harry clarified that the ceremony in the garden was "unofficial, non-binding, except in our souls".
