The viral One Chip Challenge has participants facing a mixture of reactions due to the level of spice infused into the infamous Paqui tortilla chips.
What is the One Chip Challenge?
The One Chip Challenge quite simply asks users to eat one particular tortilla chip to see if they can withstand the extreme heat from the pepper flavor.
Paqui is a snack brand that has offerings available in retail locations throughout the country.
Their One Chip Challenge includes a singular triangular piece of baked tortilla in a casket-shaped box.
2022's challenge is presented in an electric blue and black box featuring a red scull.

What to know about the TikTok pizza salad
According to Paqui: “This year's high voltage chip contains the super-charged Carolina Reaper Pepper and stinging Scorpion Pepper with a shocking twist, it'll turn your tongue BLUE!"
The idea is – if you can handle the heat, you've won the challenge.
Social media is ablaze with people taking on the task with varying levels of success.
In September 2022, TikTok user @angela_b157 uploaded a series of videos documenting how her niece ended up in the hospital crying and holding onto her stomach as a result of the challenge.
Earlier on in the year, three high school students from Lodi, California were hospitalized following their attempt at the hazardous trend.
In 2021, a middle school youth from Tyler, Texas was similarly hospitalized for taking part in the challenge.

Originally named HP22B, the pepper is a world record holder.
In 2017, the Carolina Reaper was ranked the hottest chilli pepper by the Guinness World Record.
The pepper is grown by Ed Currie of the PuckerButt Pepper Company in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
It averages around 1.6 million SHU, the scale used to rank how spicy peppers are.
Which celebrities participated in the One Chip Challenge?
Ellen DeGeneres had actress Kristen Bell attempt the challenge up against actor Michael Peña on her show.
Other celebrities who participated in the craze include Shaquille O'Neal, Lil' Yachty, and Sean Evans, among others.
