Woman in her 30s is raped at Cornish seaside report as police arrest man, 38, and hunt angler who may hold key to the case

A 38-year-old man has been arrested in Cornwall after a woman, aged in her 30s, was allegedly raped on Newquay’s Towan Beach.
Police say the incident occurred on Sunday at around 4am and are now seeking witnesses.
Police believe an angler fishing off the Cornish beach may have been a witness to the alleged crime and are urging anyone who was in the vicinity to come forward with more information.
A man who was arrested on suspicion of rape has since been released on bail.
The incident allegedly occurred on Towan Beach in Newquay at 4am last Sunday
Police are seeking any witnesses to the alleged crime and believe a lone angler may have been in the vicinity
The victim is currently being supported by specialist officers, Devon and Cornwall Police say.
Police have said that after scanning CCTV of the area they have identified a witness they believe will be able to provide more information.
Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Chris Donald, said: ‘Our enquiries remain ongoing in relation to this case and we are really keen to identify and speak to a person who may have seen or heard something which may assist our enquiries.
‘Through CCTV enquiries we believe a person was finishing on the beach in the early hours of Saturday and I would ask them to get in touch with us.
‘I’d also ask that anyone else who was in the area and may have relevant information, to please get in touch.’
