Demi Lovato's "Octopus" Haircut Just Feels Right

Demi Lovato is taking a step back from their pixie-cut era. On March 28, the singer posted a selfie on Instagram Stories, and her normally short, cropped cut was replaced by an edgy “octopus” haircut.
The new look is a modern version of the popular ’90s “Rachel” haircut from “Friends.” It’s essentially a textured shag with shorter layers around the top of the head — the rest of the hair falls just below her shoulders. Seeing as Lovato’s hair is still on the shorter side from their buzz cut, this fresh look is likely due to extensions or a wig.
The “octopus” cut is just one of many animal-inspired hairstyles making the rounds this year. For other examples, see: the “jellyfish” haircut and the “wolf” cut. It differs pretty heavily from a mullet haircut (another look Lovato has worn before) as it’s less disjointed and features longer, face-framing bangs as opposed to short baby bangs. Shags — a big component of this style — have also become a popular choice for anyone looking for an edgy, effortless cut that still feels chic and on-trend. Everyone from Yara Shahidi to Taylor Swift has been seen in a version of the style, so if you’re looking to get your own, you’ll be in some very good company. The “octopus” haircut is highly customizable and can work across all hair types and textures. For inspiration, just take a closer look at Lovato’s version below.
