I Tried TikTok's Viral White Concealer Hack…Here Are My Honest Thoughts

These days, when I hear about a new viral trend or beauty product on TikTok my initial reaction is typically an eye roll. As a seasoned beauty editor, I’ve seen it all—and most of the buzzy hacks my FYP shows me are fine, but rarely the game-changers they promise to be. That said, I was intrigued when I first stumbled upon TikTok’s white concealer trend. The hack is fairly simply and promises to erase dark circles and make your eye area look ultra bright and glowy. As someone who has chronic under-eye shadows and minimal luck using traditional color correctors in the past, I decided to give this hack a try.

Was I skeptical this TikTok makeup hack would work, despite all the positive reviews and compelling before-and-after pics? You better believe it. Was I pleasantly surprised with the results? Well, you’ll need to keep reading to find that part out. Ahead, everything you need to know about the white concealer trend, plus my very honest review.

What is the white concealer trend?

The white concealer trend went viral on TikTok last spring—and unlike other TikTok trends that die out rather quickly, this one is still super popular. The technique is pretty simple and involves applying an opaque white cream concealer either in place of or layered with a regular under-eye concealer to get that super bright eye look that become popular on IG a few years ago. Think of it as “whiting out” your dark circles or shadows to create a wide-awake look.

My review:

The product:

My white concealer of choice was L.A. Girl’s HD Pro Corrector Concealer Flat White Corrector. It has a bunch of 5-star ratings, a rich, creamy texture, and at just $4.99 it’s an affordable option too. In fact, TikTokers love this white concealer so much that it was sold out at the first three (!!) stores I tried to purchase it from. I finally found it at my local Ulta where the manager kindly went into the back to grab the last one for me <3.

The application:

First, I prepped my under-eyes area with a hydrating eye cream. I don’t typically apply eye cream before makeup, but because I was going to be using two different concealers I didn’t want my under-eyes to get dry or cakey or for the product to settle into any fine lines. Once my eye cream sunk in, I went in with my regular concealer and swiped it under my eyes and then quickly blended it out by lightly tapping in the pigments using my ring finger. I know some TikTokers apply their regular concealer after the white one, but I wanted to create a nice base first.

Now for the fun part: white concealer time. I placed three medium-size dots under my eyes and then blended them out with a damp Beautyblender sponge. Even though the L.A. Girl concealer is dispensed via a tiny brush applicator, I wouldn’t recommend blending out the formula with that. The makeup sponge worked perfectly IMO. You just need to reeeeally commit to blending out the pigments to avoid that chalky look.

The result:

If you’re a person of color, this beauty hack might make you work for it. I thought the brightness under my eyes would be, like, SUPER dramatic upon initial application, but that really wasn’t the case. So I continued to add a dot or two more of the white concealer and blend it out until I got to the brightness level of my liking. About seven extra dots and five more minutes of blending of later, I finally achieved my ideal result. My under eye area looked visibly brighter with less obvious dark circles…but not ghastly white.

The verdict:

There’s no reason to be freaked out by using a stark white concealer under your eyes. If you apply a little bit at a time and build and blend as you go, the effect is the same as using a highlighter or any other color corrector to camouflage dark circles and brighten up your eye area. And if you load on the white concealer? Expect to see that Kardashian insta-glam look. The tl;dr? This a TikTok makeup hack that *actually* works, and can be tailored to your specific makeup vibe. And if you try the it using L.A. Girl’s white concealer, it’s a v affordable hack too.
