Acting intimacy coach reveals secrets behind a good sex scene – and how she deals with male stars becoming visibly aroused

An ‘intimacy coordinator’ who has worked on popular Australian films and TV shows has revealed the secrets to a good sex scene.

Chloe Dallimore works with cast and crew on leading productions to ensure the actors are fine with their intimacy scenes and no boundary is crossed when filming.

She told The Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday that there is a clear formula to follow when it comes to creating passionate on-screen moments.

‘We go through the script and isolate the scenes where there is intimate content. We determine which has nudity, which has transfer of bodily fluids,’ she said.

Chloe has helped develop safe sex and intimacy procedures on many leading Aussie productions including Home and Away, Heartbreak High and 3000 Years of Longing.

She said one aspect of her role included reassuring actresses their male co-stars ‘physical reactions’ to a sex scene was just a chemical reaction to the mood. 

‘I let them know if they do get a reaction, it’s an initial animalistic response.’

‘It’s chemicals in your brain thinking you might be having sex,’ she explained. 

‘I’m involved from the pre-production stage and having the conversations from the outset. On something like Heartbreak High (pictured), which has a lot of intimacy, I’d be there multiple times a week,’ she said

She added the role sees her working with cast and crew to determine everyone is comfortable with the scripted scene and to plan the logistics of filming it safely. 

The film and television professional is involved from the pre-production stage and has the tough conversations with cast and crew from the outset.

Chloe finished up by saying another crucial aspect of her role was spicing up a scene by creating chemistry between the performers.

‘Sometimes all it takes is using a different camera angle to make the scene look more realistic,’ she added.
