But Peter Andre’s career took a brand new direction on Wednesday as he made his presenting debut on GB News, delivering the day’s top stories alongside host Ellie Costello.

And while many were no doubt alarmed that the performer swapped his microphone for the autocue, there were several who were left pleasantly surprised by his news reading skills.

Taking to Twitter, viewers were quick to remark that the star was ‘surprisingly not bad’, with one enthusiastic fan calling for him to be a ‘permeant fixture’ on the channel.

‘Well done Peter. You have an excellent TV voice & while GB News have you, GMB have knacker sack Ed Balls. Hope to see you more often’, commented one viewer.

No way: Peter Andre’s career took a brand new direction on Wednesday as he made his presenting debut on GB News, delivering the day’s top stories alongside host Ellie Costello

Surprising: While many were no doubt alarmed that the performer swapped his microphone for the autocue, there were several who were left pleasantly surprised by his news reading skills

While another shared: ‘Very surprised how well Peter Andre fitted in as presenter on GB news. Well done.’

‘Peter Andre doing a good job on the breakfast show today, very professional indeed…tbh’ tweeted a third.

‘Just waking up to see Peter on GB news with Ellie has made my morning. I’m hoping Peter is going to be a permanent fixture in the channel’, remarked a fifth person.

With another adding: ‘Peter Andre surprisingly not bad !.thought he was going to be his usual animated cracking jokes self!’

However, though he pulled off a credible turn on screens, there were some viewers who were baffled by his presence on the show, as they implied he should stick to his day job.

One viewer moaned: ‘New lows for gb news. What the hell is Peter Andre doing on a gb news team. That’s the end of that….. switched off…’

While a second confused watcher tweeted: ‘Peter Andre presenting GB News Wtf?’

‘What has happened to GB news, stupid topics and now Peter Andre time to tune out and take it of my screens at work’ questioned a third.

Reaction: Taking to Twitter, viewers were quick to remark that the star was ‘surprisingly not bad’, with one enthusiastic fan calling for him to be a ‘permeant fixture’ on the channel

With another ranting: ‘That says just about all we need to know about Peter Andre and GB News desperation to find presenters for their rubbish.’

Peter first made his grand TV announcement on Instagram on Tuesday, revealing he’ll be on the show on Wednesday and Thursday.

Alongside a video of himself, he wrote: ‘I will be hosting the GB news Breakfast show tomorrow morning with @elliecostelloTV for my first ever time.

‘Join us bright and early. 6-9:30 am.’

But he later admitted to regretting his decision to announce the appearance so publicly, telling MailOnline: ‘I almost regretted putting it on Twitter that I was hosting the show but I didn’t look at any comments because I thought it would put me off.

‘One of the things people don’t know is I host Miss World every year, which goes to 2 billion people and it’s not shown in the UK, it’s a very small minority of places it doesn’t go to, but it’s shown in the US.’

He added: ‘I love presenting and have been doing it on and off for years but I knew this was a tough gig and I knew that Eamonn is incredible and so is the other presenters – so I was very nervous, I’m not going to lie.

‘But thankfully I think it went well. People say I’m not opinionated, I am when it comes to things I’m really passionate about and I think it was nice to be able to talk about obesity on today’s show. I really felt strong about that.

‘It was nice to have the debates because when you have a debate with someone you can hear some of their points and think that’s valid and they can hear your points and think “oh actually that’s valid”.’

Divided: However, though he pulled off a credible turn on screens, there were some viewers who were baffled by his presence on the show, as they implied he should stick to his day job

Despite winning positive reviews, Peter admitted he was going to get through his temporary stint on the show before considering his options.

‘I think I’m going to get through tomorrow’s show first before I think about a career in news. I am really glad that they gave me an opportunity,’ he said.

The singer also weighed in on the controversy surrounding ex-This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield , having appeared on the show numerous times throughout his career.

‘I’ve always said whenever I’ve been to ITV and whenever I’ve been on the sofa, I’ve been treated with nothing but love from everybody but that doesn’t mean what I’ve experienced is the same as someone else,’ he said.

‘There are people who have worked there daily for years – it’s very different from going on the sofa or doing something outside the sofa.

‘For me, ITV always treated me like family and it’s very hard to hear this stuff. I don’t think it’s going anywhere, anytime soon.’
