Alison Hammond ‘to host Great British Bake Off –replacing Matt Lucas’
This Morning presenter Alison Hammond is reportedly set to join The Great British Bake Off when the Channel 4 series begins filming later this year.
Alison, 48, will reportedly be replacing Matt Lucas as co-host, after the comedian announced his departure at the end of last year, telling fans that it had become clear he couldn't balance both GBBO and other commitments.
Matt's fellow co-host Noel Fielding will be remaining on the show, with Alison set to present alongside him.
Sharing the news of Alison's new role, an insider told The Mirror: "Alison is a great choice. She will bring warmth and humour to the tent in spades. We’re laughing just thinking about it."
OK! has contacted Channel 4 and representatives for Alison for comment.
Fans have been quick to react to the news, with many sharing their happiness at the idea of seeing Alison in the bake off tent.
Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "I am all for Alison Hammond being the new host of Bake Off. Exactly the warmth and charm that the show needs."
"God I'm so excited to see Alison Hammond on Bake Off, she's gonna absolutely make this season" added another.
While former Pointless host Richard Osman wrote: "Alison Hammond as new 'Bake Off' host is the perfect booking. What a great choice" to which one follower replied: "To be fair – what programme WOULDN'T be improved by her being host?"
It comes just three years after Alison appeared on the Great Celebrity Bake Off in 2020, alongside Louis Theroux, Tan France, and James Blunt.
Rumours recently began to swirl that Alison was engaged to her boyfriend Ben Hawkins, however the TV star put the rumours the bed as she told This Morning co-host Dermot O'Leary that they were untrue.
As wedding bells rang out in the studio, Dermot was keen to know more about the reports that Alison is set to tie the knot with her beau.
He said: "Alison, I can't believe you didn't tell us that you are going to get married! This is the most amazing… I read it in the papers!"
However, Alison soon set the record straight and told her co-host that the engagement reports are, in fact, not true.
"Fake news", she told Dermot, before she said "cut the music" and the wedding bells ringing out came to a swift halt.
"It's fake news babes, I'm so sorry. I'm not engaged. I told you that whenever I'm engaged or getting married, I'll be the first one to tell you", she said, as Dermot feigned shock and disappointment.
