Zachariah Smith, 19, quickly became a fan favourite of American Idol viewers when he joined season 21, and not just because of his soulful voice.

The grill cook charmed viewers with his genuine adoration and devotion to his family, which included Crysta Wilkerson, 32, and her three children.

When he first auditioned in November last year, Crysta was introduced as Zachariah’s wife although how and when their romance started was unclear.

Now, divorce records obtained by The US Sun revealed that Crysta officially split from her former husband in April 2022, citing irreconcilable differences.

Sources told the outlet that Zachariah and Crysta got married in September although it was not able to confirm this report with the Monroe County Mississippi Clerk.

Crysta and her former husband still share custody of their three children, now Zachariah’s stepchildren, aged 10, nine and five.

According to television station WTVA, Crysta is also the manager of the Mississippi restaurant where Zachariah was working and it has reportedly been in her family for almost 20 years.

The budding singer has garnered a hefty fanbase since his very first appearance on American Idol due to his sultry southern vocals.

Zachariah belted a standout rendition of Hurts So Good by John Mellencamp for his audition, which now has one million views on YouTube, blew away the judges from the very first notes.

Judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie gave the singer a standing ovation, while Luke Bryan declared: “Go back to Amory, get your damn apron, get a little lighter fluid, burn the apron.”

Zachariah won over viewers with his personality as he sweetly exclaimed: “I don’t have to flip burgers anymore!”

In the episode, Crysta was seen anxiously waiting outside the doors before she was let in to celebrate with her husband as he was given his golden ticket.

Despite the hefty age gap between Zachariah and Crysta, the loving couple have received endless streams of support from viewers.

Ahead of this weekend’s Disney-themed episode, Zachariah and his family enjoyed a day out at Disneyland, where he was often stopped by newfound fans.

He shared some fan snaps on his Instagram story and posted a sweet family photo, with Crysta and his three stepchildren all decked out in Disney gear.

The comments section was flooded with sweet messages as American Idol fans shared their excitement for the finale.

One fan declared: “You and your family are just so precious and you have so much talent!!!”

Another wrote: “What a darling family!! So glad you you guys got to go!! Your kids are so cute too!!!”
