Dame Angela Lansbury’s family confirmed that the Murder She Wrote star died in her sleep yesterday just days before her 97th birthday. The beloved actress lived an incredible life and starred in a number of classic films, including Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Beauty and the Beast and Nanny McPhee.

Dame Angela’s family wrote in a statement: “The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1.30am today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday.
“In addition to her three children, Anthony, Deirdre and David, she is survived by three grandchildren, Peter, Katherine and Ian, plus five great grandchildren and her brother, producer Edgar Lansbury. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Peter Shaw.”
The talented actress has made many film and television appearances across eight decades, and was one of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema at the time of her death.
Dame Angela has won numerous awards of the years, including six Tony Awards (including Lifetime Achievement Award), six Golden Globe Awards, a Laurence Olivier Award, and the Academy Honorary Award, in addition to nominations for three Academy Awards, eighteen Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Grammy Award.

The actress earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for her role in The Picture of Dorian Gray.
