Brenda Edwards celebrates Jamal at ‘emotional evening’ a year on from tragic death

Brenda Edwards was joined by her Loose Women co-stars for an “emotional evening” remembering her son Jamal on the one-year anniversary of his tragic death.

Supported by OK! columnist Judi Love, Linda Robson, Charlene White and Kelle Bryan, the women all wore blue in tribute of the record producer’s love for Chelsea FC.

Opening up about the night, Judi told us: “Last Monday, a year to the day we lost Jamal Edwards, I joined his mum Brenda, sister Tanisha and my Loose Women co-stars Linda, Charlene and Kelle at an event celebrating his life.

“I can’t reveal too much, just that it was an emotional evening and exactly as Brenda wanted it. We all wore blue in tribute to his love of Chelsea FC.

“This has been the most difficult year of Brenda’s life and my only mission is to be there to support her in continuing Jamal’s legacy. It’s in times of loss you realise what’s most important.

“We can be so misled by the business of life, the glitz and glam, when it’s the simple things – like a chat and a cuddle with your loved ones – that are the most precious.”

Brenda penned a powerful message to remember her son Jamal on the anniversary of his death, thanking her son for continuing to inspire her while referencing his mantra on Instagram.

She wrote: "Self Belief is my baby Jamal’s Mantra, this post is dedicated to my baby it's been 1 year and yet it still feels like yesterday. I thank you for continuing to inspire me daily and for helping me to get my dreams together… this has been nearly two years in the making."

The groundbreaking record producer died after a cardiac arrhythmia brought on by recreational drugs at age 31 at the home he shared with mum Brenda. The news sent a shockwave through the British music industry with countless stars sharing their sympathies and heartache.

Shortly after his death, the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust was organised to "support causes that mattered most" to him.

Brenda said: "Jamal lived his life staying true to himself, providing a platform for all to showcase what made them special whilst encouraging all to believe in themselves to achieve their full potential.

"For the past 10 years, Edwards had spent Christmas Day helping at homeless shelters, and the charity now aims to set up ‘a network of Self Belief Houses’ to help those struggling with homelessness, with mental health and self-help programmes available.

Jamal received an MBE at the age of 23 for his services to music – and he was a Prince's Trust Ambassador.
