Shock result: Boos were heard from the studio audience when hosts Ant and Dec announced the comedian as the winner
‘I’m so glad I stopped watching BGT. The show has gone down hill putting joke acts like Viggo through instead of talented people like the show is meant to be about and the judges have no backbone letting the crowd sway them just cancel it now,’ one furious viewer tweeted.
‘#BGT is well and truly finished! Cancel it now! I get paid minimum wage to wear hi vis jacket, and now some bloke from Norway has just just been given £250k for wearing one!! World has gone mad!’ agreed another.
‘@BGT Cancel/axe the show forever; the boo’s in the crowd say it all – the WORST winner ever in the show’s history!!!!! How did this sideshow win????? He literally has no talent whatsoever!!!’
‘Haven’t watched any #BGT this year as I think it’s sort of past it’s time now. But thought I’d watch the final. Was rooting for Lillianna Clifton, amazing talent! Cannot believe that stupid joke act won time to cancel the whole show’.
Others though insisted that while the result was surprising, Viggo didn’t deserve to be booed.
‘Very surprised. But Viggo was very funny. Very distasteful for anyone to boo Viggo. Not his fault he won, people voted for him, not anyone else. Made it a sour end thanks to the audience reaction. Well done, Viggo!!! #BritainsGotTalent #BGT2023 #bgt,’ tweeted one.
While another tweeted: “Sounded like a lot of boos there when #ViggoVenn was announced as the winner of #BritainsGotTalent. I thought he was great but a shock omissions from the final 3, and I think everyone thought the young lad would win. Bit of a deflated, down-beat end to the series #BGT2023 #BGT.’
Judge Alesha Dixon told Viggo during the final that he has ‘captivated the nation, they love you.’

Bruno Tonioli added: ‘I think your physical comedy is world-class, you have created one of the most memorable characters since Mr Bean.’
And Simon Cowell was full of praise for the funnyman, telling him: ‘At least you didn’t make me look stupid tonight. I have never ever met an act like you in my life, I will admit it, I really really love you now.’
Before the show aired, Simon explained how he hoped the programme would help the contestants build better lives for themselves.
He said: ‘I think you’ve got two things, you want to make a show which people hopefully will enjoy watching.’
‘And secondly, you want to give whoever it is that opportunity, hopefully, for things to get better in their lives after they’ve auditioned.’
‘I think where things have changed a lot from where we first started is it always used to be about the end prize.’
