Camillas classic wifey attitude – and why it makes her Charles perfect partner, by royal expert

King Charles is "much calmer" thanks to having his wife, Camilla, Queen Consort by his side, a royal expert said.

As his coronation fast approaches, King Charles could be feeling "anxious" ahead of the huge historical event, despite being in training for years and knowing he was heir to the throne since he was just three years old.

In 1952, his mother, Elizabeth II acceded to the throne – making him the heir apparent, a huge position to hold at such a young age.

And while preparations and rehearsals are in full swing, on the day of his coronation, King Charles will be alongside his wife, Camilla, Queen Consort who will be there to support him as she often is.

Historian, writer and broadcaster Tessa Dunlop spoke exclusively to OK! about King Charles and said: “Some people never find their perfect partner and he did, just within an imperfect situation".

King Charles's early relationship with Camilla formerly Camilla Parker Bowles caused a huge royal scandal when it first came to light.

They first dated in the early seventies with their romance growing again in the eighties but at a time when they were both married to other people.

They both had children with their respected other half before a reported affair between Charles and Camilla came to light in 1992 with Princess Diana's infamous quote: “There were three of us in this marriage".

Camilla was dubbed the villain role which was heightened following the death of Princess Diana in 1997, and so Charles and Camilla kept a very low profile on their relationship.

Around two years after Diana's death, Charles and Camilla gradually began to appear in public together and have gone from strength to strength ever since having tied the knot in 2005.

Royal expert, Tessa said: “We know that Charles is much calmer with her by his side. They’re in love with each other and when you’re in love you want them by your side”.

She added: "That classic wifey role in a sense”.

Tessa also went on to talk about the differences between Charles and Camilla and William and Kate’s relationship and said: “William and Kate had a smoother start, Kate kind of bought into the role as well as the marriage from the word go.

"She didn’t have years of being a third woman, things are quite different in terms of public perception, I’m not sure they’re comparable in that sense".

She continued and said: “In terms of husband and wife and anything of a working marriage, yeah for sure but I think that Kate and William had a much more uncomplicated start, they’re a very straightforward couple, certainly superficially”.

Charles acceded to the throne after his mother died in September last year – with his coronation taking place on Saturday 6 May at Westminster Abbey.

Talking about the upcoming historical event Tessa said she thinks Charles will be "anxious".

She said: “He’s personal, he can be indecisive and he is a worrier and I think he will be anxious in the run-up to the Coronation.

“His entire life has been around process and ceremonial and event management and performance.

“This is a big deal, but it’s not like he’s not used to it, he’s been invested since 1969. He’s had seven decades of practice".

Tessa Dunlop's book, Elizabeth and Philip: The story of young love, marriage and monarchy is out now in paperback.
