Corrie actor Alex Bain has his family’s blessing as he gets engaged at 20

He may only be 20 years old, but Coronation Street actor Alex Bain has had the full seal of approval from his parents after popping the question to his girlfriend Mollie Lockwood.

The couple got engaged last October after Alex got down on one knee whilst they were celebrating their two-year anniversary.

And speaking exclusively to OK!, Alex reveals that his own parents got married when they were “really young” too, while 19 year old Mollie says her dad proposed to her mum when she was only 17.

“My parents are so happy for us. They’re really glad that I’m with Alex,” says Mollie.

“And they couldn’t really say anything about us being too young, because my mum got engaged to my dad when she was only 17. So I’m already older than she was!”

Alex adds: “My parents married really young, too! They’ve always said to me that it seems like I’ve finally found someone I have a real connection with. My mum, especially, claims she knew Mollie was for me when she first met her.”

As for why now was the right time to get engaged despite their young years, Alex continues: “I’m a big believer in making that move as soon as you know it’s the right person, and I’ve known that Mollie is my person pretty much since the day we met.

“She’s got my heart and soul already, so why not seal the deal? I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone else.”

The Corrie star, who has plays Simon Barlow on the cobbles for the last 14 years, got down on one knee on the balcony of the couple’s hotel as they watched the sunset.

“We’d been on a romantic night out in Chester for our two-year anniversary, on October 4 last year,” he says.

“We had a lovely meal, then went back to our hotel, took a couple of bottles of bubbly up to our room and watched the sunset from the balcony.

“That’s when I just asked her. I thought, ‘If I don’t do it now, I’ll keep getting more and more nervous!’ I was pretty certain she’d say yes, but I was still bricking it!”

And Mollie, who is training to be a dancer at performing arts college, says she had a “tiny inkling” it might happens.

She says: “I did have a tiny inkling on the night that it could happen – just because it was such a special day in such a romantic place! And we’d spoken before about getting married and spending our lives together.”

The pair met in 2019 when Mollie auditioned for the performing arts college where Alex was already a student.
