Corries Simon Gregson says people are strange as he responds to hair transplant rumours
Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson has hit back at rumours that he has had a hair transplant and said: “people are strange”.
Viewers were speculating that Simon, who plays Steve McDonald on the ITV soap, had been through a hair transplant procedure after wearing a cap in one episode.
During the episode, Steve, 48, was being a supportive dad to his daughter Amy Barlow.
Monday night saw his daughter stand up to her rapist Aaron Sandiford as she attended her first party since being assaulted.
While some viewers were engrossed in the drama-filled storyline, others couldn’t help but notice that Steve was unusually wearing a baseball cap, leading them to think there must be a reason behind it other than just wearing a clothing accessory.
Following speculation that he had undergone a hair transplant after Monday night's episode, the Steve McDonald actor was quick to give a sarcastic response.
The ITV soap actor posted a photo of his face to Instagram wearing a white cap and wrote: “To those who think I've had a hair transplant coz I’m in a hat, I'm also in a hoodie with no boob job. People are strange.”
Seeing the humour in the post, Steve's fans and friends also joked about the accusation.
One fan said: “You had your teeth done, because your mouth is closed!?”, while another said: “Better not wear your sunglasses in case people think you had new eyes implanted”.
Simon’s co-star Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs commented: “What’s wrong with a hair transplant ?? Asking for a friend”, while a supportive fan wrote: “you’re great the way you are!”.
Other viewers who didn’t believe Steve had a hair transplant did however point out that it was “suspicious” to see him in a cap.
They wrote: “To be fair, it was unusual for Steve to wear a hat. It did look suspicious. I was just thinking bad hair day xx”, while another said: “#Corrie Why has Steve got a hat on indoors?”.
Simon is now a Corrie legend after playing his character Steve on the soap since he first landed on the famous cobbles in 1989.
The actor has taken home 17 awards for comedy and performance and a Legends of Industry Award.
The actor did take some time away from the show to recover after breaking his leg but made a big return last year.
