Darius Campbell Danesh enjoyed beach stroll with Gerard Butler in last known pic
Darius Campbell Danesh enjoyed a day out with his friend and follow Scot, Hollywood actor Gerard Butler, just weeks before his untimely death.
Campbell Danesh’s death was announced by his family on Tuesday, aged just 41, in a statement that read: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh.
‘Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiners’ office.
‘The local police department have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances. The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue.
‘We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother.’
A cause of death has yet to be announced, but a picture has since emerged of the Pop Idol and theatre star hanging out with his pal Gerard, in what is thought to be the last photo taken of him.
The friends enjoyed a stroll together along the Malibu shores, close to Gerard’s home, on June 11.
Keeping things relaxed, both had gone barefoot in the sand during a dog walk, rolling up their trousers.
Noughties favourite Danesh Campbell opted had for beige chinos, a black buttoned T-shirt and a blue baker boy style hat for their outing.
The star carried brown ankle boots in one hand and had bright red braces hanging by his sides.
Meanwhile 300 actor Gerard opted for grey jeans a pale blue polo shirt, with his trainer laces tied together and looped over his shoulder.
Gerard, 52, was born in Paisley and raised in Renfrewshire, while his musician and performer friend was Glasgow-born.
It’s reported that they became firm friends when Campbell Danesh moved across the Atlantic to pursue his career in America, possibly being introduced by Sir Rod Stewart, known to host parties for Scottish locals in LA.
The Pop Idol finalist was also spotted at one of Sir Rod’s gigs in LA on June 14, posing for a selfie with a delighted fan.
He also took his pal Gerard into hairdresser Taylor Ferguson’s salon in Glasgow when the two made a trip back to the Scottish city earlier this year in March.
Paying tribute to Campbell Danesh on social media with a selection of photos, one of which showed Ferguson smiling between him and Gerard, the stylist, who said he was ‘a true gent’ wrote: ‘Devastated at the shocking news of the sudden death of our dearly loved friend Darius. Only 41. Our hearts are broken. We knew Darius from back in his Pop Idol and he became a family friend.
‘He was a regular in the salon – most recently he popped in with his friend Gerard Butler. He always caused a stir – sometimes singing for our clients… always super kind and generous. He’d buy the team lunch. We’d listen to his latest stories and learn about his projects – and his love life. He was a gem.’
Taylor went on to reveal that Campbell Danesh had attented his son’s wedding 20 years ago, the anniversary of which they celebrated last Thursday, sharing that it was ‘painfully sad to learn that he’d died on that very day’.
Tributes poured in as the news of the popular singer’s death emerged, as the likes of Simon Cowell, Gareth Gates and many industry collegues mourned the late star.
Danesh Campbell’s first song, the number one hit Colourblind, had dominated the charts for two weeks, exactly 20 years before his tragic passing.
