Declan Donnelly shares update on daughter Isla in rare parenting comments

Declan Donnelly has given fans a glimpse into his life as a dad.

The TV host, 47, made rare comments about being a parent during Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway: Behind The Scenes, a documentary giving fans a look behind the curtain at how the hit entertainment show is made.

In one scene, Dec and co-host Ant McPartlin were backstage ahead of one of their famous 'End of the Show' shows, featuring the West End cast of Frozen.

The camera panned to Dec, dressed in a sparkly blue dress, akin to that worn by Elsa in the hit Disney film.

Addressing the camera, Dec joked: "This is how I came to work. I'm a big fan of Frozen so this is my own outfit. I don't know what they've got for me in costume."

He then admitted: "I know the movie quite well. My daughter is four years old now so she is right in prime Elsa territory.

"When I told her this morning I was going to work to see Elsa, it kind of blew her tiny mind."

Dec and wife Ali Astall, who wed back in 2015, welcomed daughter Isla in September 2018.

They are also parents to baby boy Jack, who arrived in July 2022.

Dec rarely discusses his home and family life, but in his joint autobiography with co-host Ant, Once Upon a Tyne, he gushed about becoming a father for the first time.

"At first, like all expectant parents, I didn't truly understand how much it was going to change me," he wrote.

"I just thought it was another little person coming to live in the house. It opened up a whole other side to me, a side I didn't know existed.

"I felt a love that I didn't realise it was possible to feel. Everything I do, every day, is for my daughter now."

Ant and Dec are set for another busy few months, with the launch of I'm A Celebrity South Africa, and the imminent return of Britain's Got Talent.

The pair have admitted to "mischievously" playing pranks on new judge and former Strictly Come Dancing star Bruno Tonioli, who has replaced David Walliams.

Dec said: "We, quite mischievously, kept telling him different rules.

"So, when he hit his golden buzzer on the first session of the first day, mid-way through an act, we told him not to worry because he had another golden buzzer tomorrow, and that he had one every day.

"That might have something to do with the fact we have more golden buzzers this year.

"We also played a prank on the rest of the judges by going into their room and doing a BGT quiz, but secretly gave Bruno all the answers in advance.

"That was quite fun to see the look on everyone else's face."
