Ronan Keating 'dropped everything' to be with his family following the death of his brother following a horrific car crash over the weekend.
Ciaran Keating, who was in his 50s, died of his injuries after being involved in a two-car smash on Saturday afternoon. His wife Ann Marie, who was also in the vehicle, has been hospitalised for non-life-threatening injuries.
Two other men have also been hospitalised following the crash, including the driver of the second car, who is understood to be receiving treatment for serious injuries.
Ronan rushed back home to his native Ireland after being left devastated by the news.
A source close to the former boybander told The Sun: "It’s the phone call no one wants to take about their loved ones. Ronan dropped everything as soon as he heard the devastating news.
"He is trying to stay strong for the sake of the family and is doing everything he can to support his sister-in-law and his nephews."
They added: "Ronan is just absolutely devastated. He lives for his family. This is a cruel bolt from the blue."
Ciaran and Ann Marie had been travelling to watch their son, Ruairi, play for Cork City FC, when they became involved in the crash in an area of Ballymiles, County Mayo, that is known locally as an accident black-spot.
In a statement, Cork City FC said: “All at Cork City FC are deeply saddened at the passing of Ciaran Keating, father of our player Ruairí Keating.
"We extend our deepest sympathies to Ruairí and the entire Keating family at this exceptionally difficult time. May he rest in peace.
"We ask that the family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be confirmed in due course."
Councillor John O’Malley also offered his condolences as he said: “Everyone is shocked and saddened by the awful news. He was highly regarded by all who knew him here and we are thinking of his wife and children and his extended family.”
Christy Hyland, an Independent member of Mayo County Council, added today: “Our sympathy goes out to all the Keating family. Ciaran’s death is truly shocking”.
Ciaran is survived by his wife Ann Marie, and their three children and his four siblings, Linda, Gerard, Gary and Boyzone singer Ronan.
