‘Disappointed’ Giggs to face retrial next year

The former Manchester United winger, 48, denied subjecting ex-girlfriend Kate Greville, 38, to years of controlling and coercive behaviour, headbutting her and assaulting her sister Emma in a row at his £1.7million mansion in Worsley, Greater Manchester.

Jurors failed to reach any verdicts last week.

They had debated for 20 hours after a four-week trial at the city’s Minshull Street Crown Court. Judge Hilary Manley yesterday approved an application by prosecutors for a second trial.

Giggs, who quit as Wales boss to concentrate on clearing his name, will have to wait nearly a year – it begins on July 31 2023.

He said: “I am obviously disappointed that a retrial has been ordered. My Not Guilty plea remains in relation to all charges. I am confident that justice will eventually be done and my name will be cleared.”

Bail continues.
