Disgraceful Prince Harry needs to shut up, fumes Gavin And Stacey star

Alison Steadman has brandedPrince Harry a “disgrace” after he criticised theRoyal Family in his bookSpare.

The 76 year old actress, arguably most famous for playing Pamela Shipman in Gavin And Stacey, has said the Duke of Sussex should “shut up," adding that she cannot even bear to look at the memoir in bookshops.

Alison made the comments as she discussed meetingKing Charles – then still the Prince of Wales – in 2019 through her role as ambassador for Marie Curie, a charity that cares for people diagnosed with terminal illnesses.

The organisation is close to her heart as they cared for her mother, Marjorie, at their hospice in Liverpool when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 1994.

Alison, speaking of when she met Charles as he visited the hospice that cared for her mother, toldThe Mirror: “He’s lovely. He’s a very warm and friendly man."

She added: "I think he’s doing very well as our King and I think when he gets the crown on his head we’ll all be very proud.”

She then went on to slam Prince Harry for criticising The Firm in Spare – saying it was "very sad" and she was glad the Queen was not alive to witness the fallout from the memoir.

Alison added: “I think it’s a disgrace. It was his prerogative to leave the royal family and they let him, so I think he should just get on with it and shut up. I won’t read the book. I can’t bear to look at it in bookshops.”

Alison also addressed the topic of whether there will be a Gavin & Stacey reunion. Fans of the BBC series have beenhoping for its return since its last Christmas special pulled in 11.6 million viewers in 2019.

She said there was "no whisper of it" but added: "You never know."

Prince Harry’s book Spare became thefastest-selling non-fiction book ever when it was released in January – with the English language editionselling more than 1.4 million copies on its first day of publication.

The memoir brought anew round of attacks on the Royal Family – just weeks after hisNetflix documentary series levelled a fresh round of damning claims against the monarchy – with criticism directed towardsPrince William andKate Middleton – as well as the King and Camilla.

The memoir also contains a number ofintimate revelations about King Charles – as well as someilluminating insights into royal life.
