Eamonn Holmes, 62, has admitted that he was “shoved by the Queen” in a recent column for Express.co.uk. The TV presenter, who grew up in “war-torn” Belfast, met Queen Elizabeth II in 2018 when receiving his OBE.

He told the story about how he attempted to get a private interview with the Queen and was rejected.

The star explained he was told that she would indicate when the conversation was over with a small wave but was instead met with a “shove”.

He wrote that he stepped forward to meet Her Majesty and was asked about how many people he’d interviewed over the years.

Eamonn explained in the column: “When I stepped forward to meet Her Majesty she smiled then asked: ‘Mr Holmes, you must have interviewed an awful lot of people over the years.’

“‘I have, Your Majesty,’ I replied. ‘In fact, I’ve interviewed everyone in your family – apart from just one person.’”

“’Oh really, which one?’ she asked looking puzzled.

“You, Ma’am,” I said smiling. ‘But we could soon fix that. I’ve got my phone here or there’s that camera over there and as soon as you’re finished, I could put that right with a little chat over there….’

“We were told in advance that Her Majesty would indicate the conversation was finished as soon as she pushed back your hand, which she was holding.

“She didn’t so much push mine back… it was more a strong shove! Needless to say, I got the message, but at least she did it with a little laugh.”

Eamonn Holmes and his GB News co-host Isabel Webster spoke about the star’s memories with the Queen as a young child.

The news anchor told guest Charlie Brown about how the death of the Queen led to thoughts about his own ageing mother.

“Personally, I think Charlie, we all tend to think of our own parents,” Eamonn commented.

“I was with my mother at the weekend, she’s 93 years of age.

“Does the Queen make you think of your own mother, your grandmother?”

Charlie replied: “Certainly, my parents were significantly older than a lot of people my age.”

Eamonn added that it didn’t matter how much you prepared, death still always comes as a huge shock.

The star is best known for previously presenting ITV’s This Morning alongside his wife Ruth Langsford.

Following difficulties with the broadcaster, however, he left ITV two years ago,

He now works as a presenter on GB News alongside co-host Isabel Webster.
