In celebration of her big sister, Dakota Fanning, turning 29, Elle Fanning shared a collection of hilarious photos and videos featuring her and her sister over the years on Instagram. Rather than go for flattering, well-lit pics, “The Great” star opted for a childhood photo featuring them posing with an alien (seemingly at the sci-fi-themed New York restaurant Mars 2112), a series of blurry pictures from a wild night out, two videos of her sister celebrating Christmas (and asking Elle not to turn the sound on), and finally one nice photo of Dakota preparing to dig into her dessert.

The little-sister energy is strong in Elle’s post, but her love for her big sis is apparent too. “It’s that time of February again. My beautiful sister’s birthday. And the last of its kind… 2️⃣9️⃣th year! Wish we were celebrating at Mars 2112 tonight, partying with your own kind but, alas, you will have to put up with the mere mortals for now, HACKS included. We had a moment last year, sitting on the couch and we looked at each other and you said, “thank god I have a sister.” I wouldn’t be able to do life without you, Cody! I love you,” she captioned her post.

For her part, the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” actor loved her sister’s tribute to her. “I’m DEAD! Love you so much it’s sick,” she commented alongside a series of red-heart emojis.

The sisters’ celebrity friends were equally impressed by Elle’s tribute to Dakota. “You two are the absolute best. This is the greatest birthday tribute ever. Big love to @dakotafanning and to your mom who made real special ones for us all to love and admire 🙌😍❤️,” Naomi Watts commented. Vanessa Hudgens added, “Looool hack 🤣🤣 happy birthday Dakota!!!!”

Meanwhile, Dakota celebrated her birthday with a gorgeous photo of herself holding a glass of wine on her own grid, which she captioned, “28, it’s been real. time for 29.” It’s no alien throwback photo, but it’s still a nice way to kick off the final year of her 20s.
