Emma Watson says her dad gave her 'wine and water' when she was a kid

‘My dad would give me wine and water for lunch as a kid’: Emma Watson admits being introduced to alcohol at a young age left her ‘confused’ at other teens’ excitement over drinking

Emma Watson has admitted that she used to get ‘confused’ over other teen’s excitement over alcohol as she’s been used to drinking wine mixed with water ‘since I was a kid’.

The actress, 33, told how her father used to give her the alcoholic tipple as part of her lunch and so didn’t get the fascination other kids her age had with trying booze which was deemed ‘forbidden fruit’.

Emma’s words come as she’s set to take her career in a different direction and  launch a new premium gin brand, Renais, with her younger brother Alex, 30.

Having stepped back from the limelight following her last film in 2019, Emma has returned with a foray into wine and spirits, which has been her family’s business for several years.

And during an interview with luxury magazine, Financial Times’ How To Spend It – of which she appears on the front cover with Alex – Emma details how the taste of alcohol is nothing new to her.

She said: ‘I was quite surprised when other kids got really excited about the idea of getting their hands on alcohol.

‘My dad would give me wine and water for lunch since I was a kid. So I was pretty confused as a teenager and everyone thought alcohol was a forbidden fruit.’

The Harry Potter star cut a casual figure as she posed with Alex on a wooden table on what appears to be a countryside estate.

Dressed in jeans, a grey vest, white T-shirt the returning Adidas Gazelle, Emma looked a far cry from the glitz and glam of the red carpet fans are used to seeing her on.

The chat will see the now film star turned distiller talk acting, Hollywood and growing up in a family obsessed with wine, food and the culture around it.

It comes after Emma marked her 33rd birthday earlier this month by reflecting on a year in which she made gin, did therapy and started a women’s environmental investment fund.

The actress, best known for playing Hermione Granger in all eight of the Harry Potter films, said she ‘learned more about love and being a woman’ over the last year thanks to ‘Saturn’s Return’.

Film star Emma, born on April 15 1990, has taken a break from social media since a previous post seen on Instagram in December 2022.

She shared a series of black and white pictures which showed her in various outfits, including shorts, dresses and jackets, that were taken during her birthday last year.

Emma captioned her post: ‘This is 33. Holy moly. Before 29 I hadn’t even heard of a Saturn Return as a concept. Let’s just say that now I am well acquainted.

‘I stepped away from my life – I learned to surf (badly), I rode some horses (that went better), I did a lot of therapy (YESS therapy!). My brother and I joined forces @renaisspirits.

‘I adopted Sofia in Mexico, who seems to be an angel not a dog. We filmed a Harry Potter reunion⚡️. I said goodbye to my Grandma and Grandpa. I retraced my steps.

‘I started a women’s environmental investment fund. I played Pickleball with @sugarrayleonard and I even played golf and then tried to make all of my girlfriends learn too.

‘I cut my thumb nail off on both hands trying to cook for myself and then was only able to do things one handed for months.

Growing up: ‘My dad would give me wine and water for lunch since I was a kid. So I was pretty confused as a teenager and everyone thought alcohol was a forbidden fruit’ (pictured in 2022)

‘I felt really sad and really p**sed off about a lot of things. I learned more about love and being a woman.

‘It took me three years but I have finally figured out a daily practice and can actually keep it for more than a few days in a row.

‘I burned some things down. I eat green things now! I got obsessed with making Squarespace websites. I directed my first commercial.

‘These pictures were actually taken on my birthday last year, but I wasn’t ready to come out of my Covid Cocoon.

‘Today I feel (blue butterfly emoji). Thank you to the witches in my coven who were so pivotal in helping me arrive at where and who I am now. You are my Avengers and you inspire me and kick ass. It takes a village, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
