Emmerdales Roxy Shahidi reveals moment she refused to film scene in her underwear

Emmerdale star Roxy Shahidi has revealed she previously refused to film scenes in her underwear for the ITV soap.

The actress, 40, who portrays Leyla Cavanagh in Emmerdale, recalled the moment on Steph's Packed Lunch on Thursday, sharing how she was reluctant to take part in the scene, where she was due to be wearing just her bra and pants.

Roxy shared: “Everyone's got their own body issues, haven’t they? So, they're [the producers] fantastic like that.

“And equally, if there's stuff in the script that you’re not comfortable with, whether that’s emotional, or whether that's on a physical level, whatever it is, you can always raise that."

She continued, adding: "For example, I was written in in an underwear scene where I shimmied into a doctor's surgery and dropped my coat in bra and knickers and I said, ‘No, I’m not doing that.'"

Roxy then explained how the scene was altered and said it actually ended up being funnier than the original as she "felt comfortable" while acting it out.

“And so, I ended up in a nice knee length dress from Reiss, but I did a really good shimmy, a little dance, and I think it was funnier because for me personally, I felt comfortable delivering that scene.

"And also people don’t want to see my bra and knickers when they’re having their tea," the soap star quipped.

Elsewhere, Roxy spoke about the best way to exit a soap, leaving fans wondering if her character Leyla could be set to leave the Dales after she was recently kidnapped by drug-dealer Callum (Tom Ashley).

The soap star said: “100% taxi! If you get in a taxi, you can always come back in a taxi. So, you want the taxi really because it leaves that door fluid.

“You don’t want to die; it’d be too sad to die. You've known that character for years and years and years and you’ve invested so much. I couldn't do it, I’d weep.”

Viewers have been left wondering what's in store for Leyla after recent episodes, with some sharing their thoughts on social media and suggesting Leyla could be in grave danger.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "Leyla screaming. Give up, love. There’s nobody about except your local friendly kidnapper #Emmerdale"

"Leyla shot last year, kidnapped this year. Not the luckiest #Emmerdale" joked another.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights on ITV.
