Escape to the Chateau's Dick Strawbridge breaks social media silence

Escape to the Chateau’s Dick and Angel Strawbridge FINALLY break social media silence in midst of ‘on-set bullying’ scandal… yet shirk the dramas by sharing promo posts

Escape to the Chateau’s Dick and Angel Strawbridge have broken their social media silence amid an exposé over their behaviour behind-the-scenes at work.

The couple have been branded ‘spiky’, ‘volatile’ and ‘a nightmare to work with’ after it was revealed Channel 4 has cut ties with the couple.

The broadcaster has confirmed that it will no longer work with Dick, 63, and Angel, 45, on any new productions ‘following a review’ of their conduct.

While the couple have maintained a steely silence thus far, yesterday Dick opted to shirk the drama and pose for a beaming snap while clutching a copy of his son James’s new cook book on his Instagram account.

Meanwhile on the couple’s other account, called The Chateau, they shared a video of their children playing in the grounds of their Chateau alongside a promo code for their shop – with no reference to the scandal.

Business as usual: The couple also shared a snap from their bedding collection

A caption alongside the video read: ‘Last weekend we went for a Spring walk around the grounds…it’s nature at its best, and there was something for everyone to be excited about! Simple and beautiful.

‘To celebrate this, we’ve got up to 15% off all of our Spring Home favourites until the 30th May that are ideal for making the most of the season…

‘Head to the link in our bio to shop the collection, or visit “Filmed by the Strawbridges” to watch our walk around the Chateau’s grounds. Have a Wonderful Wednesday! Love, Dick and Angel XXX’.

The following day, they were once again on the promo trail as they shared a snap from their bedding collection.

This week sources close to the couple have told MailOnline that their behaviour on set was nothing like their ‘gorgeous’ on screen personas.

Insiders added that they couldn’t hide their ‘real characters’ to crew members who spent weeks with them filming the popular show in north-west France.

It’s also been mooted that Channel 4’s culling of the hit show was ‘convenient’ given the series – which has been on screen for seven years and sparked numerous spin-offs – had run its course.

Speaking out: Insiders said the couple couldn’t hide their ‘real characters’ to crew members who spent weeks with them filming the popular show in north-west France

A source said: ‘Dick and Angel come across on screen as the most gorgeous and lovely couple, literally like butter wouldn’t melt, but they’re not like that off screen.

‘It’s a full-on show, production is with them at the chateau for weeks so they can’t hide their real characters – they can’t turn it on for two hours of recording and then not go back to their real persona.

Their show Escape to the Chateau became one of the channel’s biggest hits when it started airing in 2016

‘They’re just spiky and volatile people and, as you can imagine, that’s a nightmare to work with.’

Channel 4 launched an inquiry after production company Two Rivers Media raised concerns about the Strawbridges and announced it would no longer work with them.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: ‘Following a review, we have taken the decision not to work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future.’

The series turned the couple into household names as 2.5million viewers regularly tuned in to watch the renovation of their 19th-century Château de la Motte-Husson in Martigné-sur-Mayenne, France.

The series was previously made by production firm Spark Media Partners, who oversaw the first four seasons from 2016 to 2018. It also allegedly cut ties with the Strawbridges due to a feud.
