Eugenie gets Frogmore! Princess ‘boxed up Harry and Meghan’s things’ and moved in 2 weeks ago
It was reported last week that the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were evicted from Frogmore Cottage to make way for Prince Andrew.
But a source has told OK! that Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have actually taken residence of the house in Windsor after being handed the keys two weeks ago.
Jack, 36, has just been offered a promotion at the US-based firm Discovery Land Company, which will mean him spending more time in America. But we were told Eugenie, 32, who is expecting her second child, is “determined to have the baby in the UK and bring up her children in England” – and Frogmore Cottage will be the perfect base to do just that.
Jack’s new role will involve him travelling between the UK, US and Portugal, and whenever he and Eugenie are in the US, they will stay with Harry and Meghan in their Californian home, our source said.
“The Sussexes are disappointed by the move but couldn’t be happier that Eugenie and Jack will take it over. They have been staying there on and off for the past few years anyway,” the source said.
“They went to see Harry and Meghan last month in California. They took over some small personal belongings left in the property. They were also helping to box up items at Frogmore to be shipped over to California.
“Andrew is delighted that his daughter will take over the property for the time being.”
Another source said the princess and her family are staying at Frogmore, but added it was on a temporary basis and the palace doesn’t have any long-term plans for them to live there permanently.
Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, put any negative headlines amid the “Frogxit” furore behind them last Tuesday when they enjoyed a rare date night in LA. The couple were all smiles as they spent some quality time together at celebrity hotspot San Vicente Bungalows – their first joint public appearance since the release of Harry’s explosive memoir, Spare, in January.
A spokesperson for them had confirmed: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.”
The couple were given Frogmore Cottage by Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and renovated it at a cost of £2.4 million before moving in after their wedding in 2018. But according to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, the couple should not have been too shocked by the King’s decision to find new tenants.
She said, “They should have realised it was inevitable. They’ve hardly lived there [at Frogmore Cottage] – just six months in the whole time of the lease.”
The eviction, which will leave the couple without a permanent UK base, comes after Harry made a series of bombshell claims in his memoir. These included an alleged row with Prince William and their father and accusing his brother of shoving him during another row. He also alleged that Queen Consort Camilla leaked stories to the press.
While Jennie believes there are practical reasons behind the King’s decision to ask them to move out, she admits the timing suggests it could also be his way of punishing Harry.
“It’s a way of a father telling his son actions have consequences and words have consequences,” she said. “You can’t do what you’ve done and say what you’ve said in Spare without expecting there to be a comeback. And this is a comeback.”
And while Harry and Meghan look content with their new lives in California, she says the move is likely to have ruffled feathers.
“They look happy and I’m glad they are,” she said. “They’re living their life and look very much together. But there’s a lot of resentment there between the family.”
What’s more, the decision to make them vacate Frogmore could have implications for the King’s coronation on 6 May. While Jennie believes Harry and Meghan will almost certainly have been invited, she says the eviction, coupled with the fact the event falls on the same day as Archie’s fourth birthday, could give them the perfect “excuse” not to attend.
“I suspect they will find a way of not coming to the coronation… especially with the announcement about Frogmore,” she said. “Harry wants apologies from William and his father. We have no idea whether those have been forthcoming, but I very much doubt it.”
