Eva Mendes Explains Why You Won't See Her on the "Barbie" Red Carpet With Ryan Gosling
Eva Mendes is super supportive of her partner, Ryan Gosling — and his highly anticipated role as Ken in the “Barbie” movie — but that doesn’t mean you should expect to see her on the red carpet with him this summer. While chatting with fans on social media, Mendes explained that she made the decision because she wants to protect their “very private life.”
Here’s how it came up. On April 6, Mendes posted a clip on Instagram of their 2012 movie “The Place Beyond the Pines.” She wrote in the caption, “Magic is Real. We did not meet on set. The magic started way before but here’s a little magic captured on camera.” She thanked the movie’s director, Derek Cianfrance, for capturing the moment on film. Mendes and Gosling were first linked publicly in 2011 during filming.
A fan commented on the post, “I really hope ‘Barbie’ will get through the Awards Season just to see you w Ryan.” Mendes wrote back, “you’re the best ! What a cool comment, thank you. But we don’t do those things together. Like these photos I’ve been posting, Im only comfortable posting because it’s already out there.” In a second comment, she added that the only time they ever did a red carpet together was when they were both promoting “The Place Beyond the Pines.”
Another fan asked her to clarify why she’s uncomfortable sharing. Mendes wrote, “ayy thank you! By ‘not comfortable’ , I mean exposing our very private life that we value. I’m still dying to do another movie with him though . . .” Maybe she’ll join him in that upcoming rumored “Ocean’s 11” prequel!
In November 2022, Mendes fueled rumors that she and Gosling had gotten married, referring to the actor as her “husband” during an appearance on Australian television. Days later, when she was asked if they’d secretly tied the knot, she said coyly, “But who says we weren’t already?”
Gosling and Mendes share two children together — Esmeralda, 8, and Amada, 6 — and they’re also private about their daughters’ lives, choosing not to share photos of them with the public.
