Fans are mad about Blake Lively in upcoming It Ends With Us film

This month fans got their first look at Blake Lively as Lily Bloom on the set of It Ends With Us, a film adaptation of the popular book and #BookTok sensation of the same title.

It Ends With Us follows the journey of Lily Bloom, a young woman with a troubled past, exploring themes of abuse, love triangles, heartbreak, and emotional turmoil. The author, Colleen Hoover, has described it as the most challenging book she has ever written. After its release, the novel gained immense popularity online, captivating readers who flooded TikTok and Twitter with theories, opinions, and ideas for potential sequels.

It was announced in January that Blake and Justin Baldoni had been cast to lead the film adaptation of the romance novel. The Gossip Girl star, 35, will feature as 23-year-old Lily Bloom, who has just moved to Boston to begin life after university, opposite Justin, 39, who will play her 30-year-old love interest Doctor Ryle Kincaid.

However, fans seemed less than thrilled with the behind-the-scenes sneak peeks. The most fervent criticism from avid book enthusiasts centered around their perception that "their" Lily Bloom was not being portrayed in the same manner as the on-set designer was dressing Blake.

One TikToker described in a viral clip: “I think most of us were already not thrilled with this casting, but this is kind of confirming the fears. Let me just say that I love Blake Lively – I love her so much – but this is not Lily Bloom.”

Showing additional photos of Lively on set, the fan continued: “Maybe we just need to trust the process, but I kind of just hate that they decided to cast so much older than what the characters in the book were.

“This is just not at all how I would picture Lily and Ryle. I don’t know, we will see, but so far this is not looking that promising.”

In another TikTok video, someone else said: “We were already questioning what the movie was going to be like with the casting. Blake’s a great actress, but Lily is supposed to be a young, fresh girl starting her life in Boston. The wig, the outfit, none of this is reading a young girl in her twenties starting life in the big city.”

One Twitter user chimed in saying: “I mean Lily wasn’t a fashion icon but this is too much.”

When Blake's casting was announced, Colleen gushed over her leading lady on Instagram, saying: “Blake Lively, y’all! She’s my dream Lily.”

She continued: “And then when I first met Justin Baldoni, who is directing the film for It Ends With Us, I immediately wanted him to be Ryle. I just thought that he had what it takes.”

“I think Justin and Blake have what it takes to bring these characters to life and I cannot wait for you guys to see that happen!”
