Fans disgusted by Letterman's 'inappropriate' behavior towards Aniston

Fans are left disgusted by David Letterman’s ‘creepy’ and ‘inappropriate’ behavior towards Jennifer Aniston in resurfaced interview

  • The 1998 interview is shocking new and old fans alike, horrified by Letterman’s ‘misogynistic’ treatment of the Friends star
  • ‘Creepy’ Letterman sucks Aniston’s hair before passing her a tissue

A Jennifer Aniston interview from the David Letterman Show more than 20 years ago has resurfaced prompting online disgust over the host’s behavior.

In the 1998 interview Letterman sidles over to Anniston and tells her ‘I just want to try one thing’ before cupping her neck and sucking a strand of her hair.

The Friends actress, then 29, looks visibly uncomfortable and even lets out a shriek as Letterman, who was 51, swoops in and places a lock of her hair in his mouth.

A drum roll plays in the background suggesting the strange move was planned by the host.

Aniston holds out her hands in an attempt to stop the talk show figure but he continues anyway.

Letterman then keeps the hair in his mouth while holding Aniston’s head to his with his hand.

Once he has removed himself he passes the actress a tissue to dry off her locks.

Fans have expressed their horror at the inappropriate clip, with one Twitter user commenting ‘Can’t get over how creepy and disturbing this clip of Jennifer Aniston on Letterman is.’

‘These Letterman clips have been making the rounds online – and they are disturbing to say the least. How was this even acceptable baffles the mind and conscience’ another wrote.

One fan that remembered watching the original interview at the time, described the interaction as ‘misogyny at its finest. I knew Letterman was a creep (and not very funny) back in the day but I’m ashamed to say I never noticed or commented on this unacceptable behavior.’

Other past interviews Letterman conducted have received negative attention in the post #MeToo era.

Among them is an interview he conducted with Madonna in 1994, in which he asked the singer to kiss a random member of the audience.

In a more recent interview with Lindsay Lohan in 2013 he is seen jibing the Parent Trap star over her previous substance abuse and time in rehab facilities.

In reaction to a clip of the interview one viewer wrote on Twitter: ‘This is vile on so many levels. The misogyny. The blindsiding. The stigma of addiction & rehab. The hypocrisy of wanting people to recover, but then judging how they choose do so.’

Adding: ‘I hope Lindsay Lohan knows how loved she is. The world has treated her and many others so unfairly.’

David Letterman was embroiled in a scandal in 2009 when he was forced to confess to cheating on his wife, Regina Lasko, after someone tried to blackmail him with the information that he had slept with women on his staff, including his former longtime assistant, Stephanie Birkitt.

In a twist it later emerged that it was Birkitt’s former lover, former CBS News producer Robert ‘Joe’ Halderman, who she was cheating on with Letterman at the time, that allegedly tried to blackmail the star for $2 million when he found out what was going on.

Halderman was arrested for attempted extortion and ended up pleading guilty in March 2010 to the lesser charge of attempted second-degree grand larceny in exchange for six months in jail, five years’ probation and 1,000 hours of community service.
