Fears dance duffer Tony Adams could WIN Strictly Come Dancing
Fears dance duffer Tony Adams could WIN Strictly Come Dancing as 100,000 Arsenal fans propel his title charge – despite the savage comments, low scores and WEEKS spent at the bottom of the leaderboard
His moves have prompted savage comments from the Strictly Come Dancing judges, along with some very low marks.
But despite being at the bottom of the leaderboard most weeks, Tony Adams is getting more votes from the public than any other contestant, prompting panic among BBC bosses that he might win the dance competition.
And today, The Mail on Sunday can reveal the secret behind the former footballer’s success – a 100,000-strong Arsenal fans’ forum which is instructing its members to use their three votes each week to keep him in the contest.
The group, named She Wore A Yellow Ribbon – The Arsenal, have organised a campaign across their social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter.
They say that Adams, 56, could easily beat last year’s winners, Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice who picked up 55,000 votes, triumphing over same-sex couple John Waite and Johannes Radebe.

The group is named after a song that became popular with fans between 1978 and 1980 when Arsenal wore yellow in three back-to-back FA Cup Finals, winning one of them.
An organiser of the crusade, calling himself Our Captain Needs You, told the MoS: ‘Tony is our captain and our idol, and he needs us now, so we are asking all of our members to download their votes and use all three to get him to the final, and win. We don’t usually bother with shows like Strictly but we want Tony to win.’ The group has worked out that if Adams gets the backing of just a third of their following, the former England captain will pick up the glitterball.
Writing on Facebook, organisers explain that the judges’ scores are added to the viewers’ votes. It means that even if a dancer gets low points in the studio, enough audience votes will keep them in.
The campaign will prompt some anxiety among BBC bosses. They fear that Adams will bring them another situation such as when Ann Widdecombe and John Sergeant stayed in the competition because the public adored them, even though their dancing won little applause from the judges

Last Saturday Adams and his professional partner Katya Jones were criticised by the judges, particularly Craig Revel Horwood, for their dance to the Grandstand theme tune to celebrate 100 years of the BBC. They scored just 17 out of 40 but escaped the dance-off. Last night, for the Halloween episode, the former England defender and Ms Jones danced the quickstep to The Devil Went Down To Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band.
Amazingly, Adams and his partner scored 31 points – their highest score yet.
Judge Anton du Beke described Adams as ‘unrecognisable’ from previous weeks – so perhaps there’s no need for that Arsenal army after all.
