Former TLC star pens bombshell memoir about her controversy sparking reality TV family, more news
Duggas tell-all
On Wednesday, May 31, former TLC star Jill Duggar Dillard announced she’s written a tell-all memoir with her husband, Derick Dillard, that “details our painful journey as part of the reality-show-filming Duggar family.” Sharing the news on Instagram, Jill, 32, said the book, “Counting the Cost,” will reveal what she endured to protect her family after her father, Jim Bob Duggar, enlisted them to appear on “19 Kids and Counting,” and the spinoff, “Counting On,” “… including lack of respect for boundaries, greed, manipulation, and betrayal.”
According to the book’s publisher, Simon & Schuster, “Counting On” also details the “intimidation” involved behind-the-scenes on “19 Kids and Counting.” Until it was canceled in 2015, the hit show thrust Jill, her 18 siblings and her family’s conservative independent Christian Baptist lifestyle into the spotlight — despite Jim Bob’s knowledge of allegations his son Josh had molested Jill and other siblings. That revelation led TLC to cancel the series and launch the spin-off, “Counting On.” The spin-off was yanked in 2021 after Josh was arrested on child pornography charges.
“I believe strongly that victims should always be protected. Victims should always be cared for,” Jill says in the upcoming final episode of Amazon Prime’s “Shiny Happy People,” a new documentary about the Duggars out Friday. “You’re out there. Your story’s out there,” she continues. “I’d rather have some say in what that looked like.” Jill’s memoir hits shelves in January 2024.

Family first
Ryan Gosling and his partner Eva Mendes have long kept their life together out of the spotlight. But the “Barbie” star speaks candidly about his love for Eva and their daughters in a new cover story for GQ’s Global Summer issue. The longtime couple began dating after playing a couple on 2012’s “The Place Beyond the Pines,” and according to Ryan, their characters helped inspire what came next in their lives off-camera, including having kids, which wasn’t on Ryan’s radar at the time. “I wasn’t thinking about kids before I met her, but after I met Eva, I realized that I just didn’t want to have kids without her,” he says. “And there were moments on ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ where we were pretending to be a family, and I didn’t really want it to be pretend anymore. I realized that this would be a life I would be really lucky to have.”
After the pair welcomed Esmeralda in 2014 and Amada in 2016, Ryan revamped his work life to accommodate his family life. “I wanted to spend as much time as I could with them,” he explains. He still does, which is why he now plans to shoot just one movie a year, so the whole family can join him on location, he tells GQ. He also praises Eva’s parenting skills, telling the outlet than when he’s unsure of his footing as a dad, “I just lean on Eva” because “she knows what’s important, always.”
“I was looking for her, you know?” Ryan muses. Asked if he was “conscious of that,” he replies, “No. But it all makes sense now.”

Dating NDAs
Raven-Symoné says that before she married Miranda Pearman-Maday, everyone she dated had to sign a non-disclosure agreement. “All of my relationships, especially – obviously – when I started dating, I had to get people to sign NDAs,” the “That’s So Raven” alum said on the May 23 edition of the “Howie Mandel Does Stuff” podcast (per Yahoo). “It took me a while to wrap my head around it because it’s very impersonal, but someone in our position needs to do that,” explained the star, 37. Asked at what point in a relationship she’d generally ask for her dates’ signatures, she laughed. “Before the naughty times come,” even quipped. “Welcome to being a celebrity in Hollywood nowadays … It’s true though nowadays, hashtags, real life, they change the dynamic of having an intimate relationship with somebody.” When that time came with her now-wife, Miranda, Raven said she was “really reluctant” to ask. “She’s like, ‘I don’t understand’ because she knew that we had something different, like it just feels different …,” Raven recalled. “We both were like, ‘This takes away the genuineness of it all, but we also understood that we live in Hollywood.’ She knows who she is, so she did it.”
Trans-Atlantic acting update
It seems Amber Heard has not “quit Hollywood,” despite reports to the contrary, but she’s confirmed she now lives in Spain. The actress has been photographed in and around Madrid repeatedly since fall 2022, a few months after she lost her defamation trial against ex-husband, Johnny Depp. But she had not yet addressed the apparent relocation publicly before a new TikTok video surfaced this week. Speaking fluent Spanish, Amber tells a video reporter, “I love Spain so much,” when asked how her “new life in Madrid” is going. Asked if she plans to stay there, she responds, “I hope so. I love living here.” As she begins to politely maneuver herself away from the camera, still smiling, she’s asked if she has any new films on the horizon. “Oh, yes,” she replies. The reporter starts to ask if she’ll attend the Cannes Film Festival, but Amber seems to be answering the previous question about movies when she says, “I keep moving forward. That’s life.”
Johnny’s new film, “Jeanne Du Barry,” opened the 2023 Cannes festival, sparking a wave of controversy, given Amber’s past allegations of abuse (which he’s denied). The TikTok exchange comes after a May 2023 report from The Daily Mail in which a purported friend of Amber’s was quoted as saying she actress has “quit Hollywood and quietly relocated to Spain.”
Birthday love
Arnold Schwarzenegger took a moment to wish his longtime friend, Clint Eastwood a happy birthday on Wednesday, May 31, as the “Dirty Harry” star rang in his 93rd year. “Happy birthday, Clint! You’ve inspired me, you’ve mentored me, and you’re a wonderful friend,” Arnold wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo of the two skiing. “At 93, you prove that heroes don’t retire – they reload. You’re a legend,” he concluded. Fans got a kick out of the sweet message between movie icons, not to mention the fact that they were still hitting the slopes together. “Bro casually went skiing at 93,” joked one user, only to be corrected by someone who said they thought “Clint was 89 at the time” the pic was shot. “Yeah agreed,” wrote a third fan, “that’s still amazing!” James Woods honored Clint on his milestone day as well, tweeting, in part: “Clint is so admired and loved by so many people. Let me say this: whatever good thing you like about Clint Eastwood, in real life he’s ten times better. He’s one of my favorite people on earth.”
