Greyson Chance Accuses Ellen DeGeneres of Being Manipulative and Self-Centered

The 25-year-old crooner, who was signed to Ellen’s label, claims the TV host ‘became domineering and way too controlling’ about his image after he released a mini EP in October 2011.

AceShowbizGreyson Chance had a lot to say about Ellen DeGeneres, but not in a good way. When reflecting on his life and career in an interview with Rolling Stone, the “Unfriend You” singer said he’s “never met someone more manipulative, more self-centered and more blatantly opportunistic than her.”

For the record, Greyson appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in May 2010 after a video of him performing Lady GaGa‘s “Paparazzi” went viral. Since then, Ellen signed him as the first act of her label eleveneleven.

“We just couldn’t believe what was happening,” the 25-year-old told the publication. “We were so unsure of what we were getting into, and the person that helped cure all of that skepticism and chaotic energy was Ellen.”

Greyson then recalled Ellen’s statement during their first meeting, “I’m going to protect you.” She reportedly added, “I’m going to be here for you. We’re going to do this together.”

However, Greyson claimed Ellen “became domineering and way too controlling” about his image after he dropped a mini EP in October 2011. “My whole week, my whole month, my whole year could change [with] one text message from her. That was horrible,” he shared.

At one point, Ellen allegedly forced him to watch Justin Bieber‘s documentary, “Never Say Never” to model his career. When Greyson refused to watch it right away because he was exhausted, the TV host allegedly called his mom Lisa and said, “What type of mother are you?”

Greyson then quoted Ellen telling him, “Disappointed isn’t even remotely what I’m feeling right now.” He then thought to himself, “It was clear that, ‘OK, I’m a pawn in your game.’ So I watched the movie.”

The “Waiting Outside the Lines” singer went on to note that Ellen “completely abandoned” him when his album and ticket sales dropped in 2012. Though so, he still made some appearances on the comic’s day-time talk show because it would help boost his career.

“Whenever I would come on the show, it was such a fake smile. She wouldn’t even ask, ‘How are you doing? How are you holding up?’ It was just like, ‘Here’s what we’re going to talk about. We’ll see you on there,’ ” Greyson explained, before elaborating on the awkward encounter when Ellen tried to congratulate him on publicly coming out.

“She said, ‘How have you been?’ And that just killed me inside because I was like, ‘What do you mean how have I f**king been? Where have you been?’ ” he recounted. “I hadn’t spoken to her in years … that’s so messed up, that you’re now showing the world as if we’re so tight. We’re so good. And behind the scenes, you are this insanely manipulative person.”
