Gwyneth Paltrow says rectal ozone therapy has 'been very helpful'

Gwyneth Paltrow reveals the weirdest wellness thing she’s ever done is rectal ozone therapy: ‘It’s pretty weird but it’s been very helpful’

Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow revealed that the weirdest wellness thing she’s ever done is rectal ozone therapy, a procedure where the powerful gas is delivered via catheter into the colon.

‘I have used ozone therapy, rectally. Can I say that?’ the 50-year-old Oscar winner said on Monday’s episode of Dear Media podcast The Art of Being Well.

‘It’s pretty weird. It’s pretty weird, yeah. But it’s been very helpful.’

Benefits of rectal ozone therapy are said to be reduced pain/inflammation, increased energy, improved metabolism/circulation, stimulated immune system, detoxification, anti-aging, and fighting bacterial/viral infections.

Gwyneth’s wellness journey also has her consuming ketone drinks, which The Art of Being Well host said tasted like ‘cherry gasoline.’

‘It helps with cognition and brain fog and energy. I have it with green tea in the afternoon. It tastes pretty, pretty bad,’ Paltrow agreed.

‘I believe that they are coming out with an improved flavor or an improved version, which is very exciting.’

The Los Angeles native detailed her entire daily wellness routine involving transcendental meditation, Pilates, Tracy Anderson workout, and infared sauna sessions.

The only time the Shark Tank guest shark didn’t follow her strict paleo diet was when she was pregnant with her first child in 2003: ‘All I wanted was grilled cheese sandwiches and yogurt.’

Both of Gwyneth’s children – daughter Apple, 18; and son Moses, 16 – remind her of her late father, Bruce Paltrow, who ‘was like my sun and my moon.’

‘My daughter has his sense of humor and his sort of chutzpah,’ Paltrow gushed of the Emmy-nominated producer who died from oral cancer in 2002.

‘And then my father also had this very sensitive, artistic, gentle side, and I see that in my son so much.’

Turns out the Sex, Love & Goop producer ‘consciously uncoupled’ from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin a full year before they publicly announced the end of their decade-long marriage in 2014.

‘We had told the kids and during that year, and some of our close friends knew what was happening,’ Gwyneth explained.

Paltrow originally met her second husband Brad Falchuk in 2010 when she did a five-episode gig on Fox’s Glee, but they didn’t date until 2014 before tying the knot four years later.

‘I had to do a lot of work on myself in order to be ready for my marriage with Brad because I was still, up until that point, I was really stuck in childhood patterns of attachment and things that weren’t healthy,’ the Emmy winner noted.

‘I had to step up and realize, gosh, I really want to be with someone who is calming to my nervous system and who brings out the best in me. And like, I really thought about what those things were. I didn’t want to feel nervous around my partner. I wanted to feel calm, I wanted to feel uplifted.

‘I wanted to feel like I was always learning or in an environment where I was allowed to learn and he provided those things. But I had to really rewire a certain, you know, broken part of me. If I’m honest, you know, that was so scary.’

Gwyneth – whose last acting gig was Netflix series The Politician in 2020 – admitted her job at Goop makes an acting career ‘impossible’ in the future, but she also said ‘never say never.’

‘I also recognize that I am an artist. I mean, and I think entrepreneurs are artists as well,’ Paltrow explained.

‘It’s a very similar spirit and I feel like that need to create and that that expressiveness will probably always need to come through me. And, you know, if there’s a day that my day job at Goop is less intensive, and it wouldn’t surprise me if after kind of having some downtime if I felt like, “Oh, you know, I’d love to go do a play or something like that.” So I’m open. I just, it’s not something I pursue right now.’

And while the goddaughter of Steven Spielberg admitted there’s a ‘couple’ films she’s done that make her ‘kind of cringe a bit’ – her favorites include John Madden’s 1998 romance Shakespeare in Love and Wes Anderson’s 2001 dramedy The Royal Tenenbaums.

‘The Talented Mr. Ripley seems to be a fan favorite,’ Gwyneth said of the 1999 psychological thriller.

‘People still talk to me about that movie all the time. It’s interesting. It’s had a long life after. It didn’t do particularly well when it came out, but it’s become kind of a classic. I can’t even remember the rest of them. Yeah, like, I always forget what else I’ve been in.’

Paltrow will next face off against retired optometrist Terry Sanderson over their 2016 collision on the Deer Valley slopes in Utah, which lead to dueling $300K lawsuits and the trial starts March 21.
