Holly Willoughby ‘blindsided and upset’ by Phillip Schofield’s statement on feud

Holly and Phil open Thursday’s edition of This Morning

After much speculation about tensions in his relationship with This Morning co-host Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield issued a surprise statement last night.

Sources close to Ms Willoughby, however, told MailOnline she had no idea that Mr Schofield was going to make a statement.

They claimed the first she saw of her co-star’s statement was when it was published online, leaving her “blindsided”.

In Phillip’s statement, he publicly addressed claims that the pair’s once incredibly close friendship was strained.

The statement from Phillip read: “Holly has always been there for me through thick and thin. And I’ve been there for her.

“The last few weeks haven’t been easy for either of us. My family went through a real ordeal.

“And Holly’s support throughout meant the world to me, as did the support of my bosses at ITV, my editor Martin Frizell and the whole This Morning family, including our amazing viewers.”

In recent months, Phillip took time off from This Morning as his brother Timothy faced trial for child sex offences.

MailOnline have now claimed that Holly was “deeply upset” over allegedly being kept in the dark about the trial, claiming that she only found out when her co-star took time off from This Morning.

“Holly had to find out from someone else which must have been awful for her. She has been so loyal to him,” a source told the publication.

“It has been upsetting for her, they have been pretty inseparable for 14 years.

“They have been through so much together, some happy and some really tough.

“But now their once super close friendship is no longer.”

Express.co.uk has contacted Holly’s representatives for comment.

The pair have spent less time on screen together than usual in recent months.

Phillip took three weeks off from the show in March as his brother stood trial for sex offences. Timothy Schofield was subsequently convicted and will be sentenced next week.

Meanwhile, Holly has had her own struggles recently as she was stricken with shingles.

The illness forced her to take time off the show meaning that she didn’t return after Easter break.
