Matt Goss, 54, was the third contestant to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing, with the singer being overcome with emotion after hearing the result. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Matt admitted he keeps away from social media criticism due to being “sensitive” to trolls, with the comments “hurting” him.

I don’t focus on that.

Express.co.uk asked Matt if he paid any attention to the criticism he received on social media during his time on Strictly.

The singer replied: “I don’t focus on that. The praise and love is in the millions and I don’t read the negative stuff.

“I don’t agree with it, the whole thing of feeding the trolls and letting people bully you.

“It hurts me so I just don’t focus on it.”

He continued: “I carry the weight of the world on my shoulders, I feel sensitive to that stuff.

“I don’t want to get into social media because it’s a black hole.”

This comes as the singer was criticised for revealing a “sob story” on It Takes Two prior to his performance of the Viennese Waltz for Movie Week.

Matt explained that the choice of Top Gun has links to his grandparents, a move that has caused many fans to accuse him of playing the “nan card”.

He said: “My grandad was a gunner in the second world war so for me, I’ve just connected to my grandad and the love of his life my nana Winn, and before he died, he said I’m gonna go see Winn.

“So I’m just gonna channel that love affair that connected to me, between my grandad and my nana, and it’s already proving to me because of the choreography… It’s an emotional dance, and I feel very connected to it already. I’m gonna do it for my gramps.”

Iilivetowrite16 moaned on Twitter: “Matt Goss must know he is in trouble on #StrictlyComeDancing as tonight on #ittakestwo he is playing the #nancard.”

Strictlyblog said: “Matt Goss is deploying the Nan!”

This comes after Head Judge Shirley Ballas also claimed she was “mortified” that Kaye Adams was voted out the first week instead of Matt.

Speaking on BBC’s the One Show, she explained: “I just felt in the evening both couples made mistakes, but the quality of Kaye was far superior.

“I was absolutely mortified that she left, to be quite honest.”

Shirley added: “I love my fellow judges and we’re all there to do a job but, in my opinion, that was one they didn’t quite get right.”

Express.co.uk also asked Matt what he thought about the judges’ scoring.

He replied: “I think if I’m improving maybe the scores should reflect that.

“But I don’t want to be that guy who moans about my scores. My life is an immediate fluidity to me the day after so I don’t really know if I’m honest. I haven’t given my scores much thought.”
