Zayn Malik Reveals Why He Remained Mum on His Altercation With Gigi’s Mom Yolanda Hadid

During his candid interview on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast, the former One Direction star discusses his headline-making altercation with her supermodel ex’s mom back in September 2021.

AceShowbizZayn Malik speaks out about his dramatic fallout with ex Gigi Hadid and her mom Yolanda Hadid for the first time since 2021. During his candid interview with Alex Cooper on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, the former One Direction star discussed his headline-making 2021 altercation with Yolanda.

During the sit-down, which marks his first interview in six years, Zayn explained why he remained mum about the incident, in which he was accused of assaulting Yolanda during an argument. “For me like… I don’t tend to get involved when people say things online,” he said, “whether it’s got something to do with me or whether it doesn’t, because, for me the most valuable thing that I have in life is time and that takes so much time, in a toxic environment to like explain yourself to people and justify this. So I just kind of kept to myself.”

“I knew what the situation was, I knew what happened, and the people involved knew what happened too and that’s all I really cared about,” the “Pillowtalk” singer added in the Wednesday, July 12 episode of the podcast. “If anybody of a sane mind would look at the situation, I believe you could respect that I just didn’t want to bring attention to anything, y’know? I wasn’t trying to get into a negative back and forth with her.”

The 30-year-old musician also revealed that he’s worried that his daughter Khai, whom he shares with Gigi, would someday be able to read about it. “Any sort of narrative online where my daughter was going to look back and read that and be able to read into it and it would just be something that was… There was no point,” he explained. “I believe I dealt with it in the best way. In an amicable, respectful way, and that’s all that needs to be said.”

Zayn was charged with four counts of harassment after an incident in September 2021. Court documents stated that the pop star allegedly “grabbed [Yolanda] and shoved her into a dresser” at their Pennsylvania home. He was also charged with harassment against his supermodel ex as well as security guard John McMahon.

The singer pleaded no contest that October. In a statement to TMZ, he “adamantly den[ied] striking Yolanda Hadid.” A source additionally said that while the singer “didn’t slap Yolanda,” he did place her in “an aggressive hold,” adding that there was “no love lost between Yolanda and Zayn.”

The altercation reportedly begin after Yolanda “came over uninvited while Gigi was away for work and he was taking care of Khai. That led to an argument.”

Elsewhere in the podcast, Zayn revealed that he and Gigi split custody evenly, and he has Khai 50 percent of the time with no additional supervision. “[I’m] hands-on with my child every chance I can be,” he shared. “If I could get 60 percent [custody], I would have it, yeah.”

He also noted that her 2-year-old daughter was the reason he did the “Call Her Daddy” interview in the first place. “The main thing in my mind is like trying to be a good example to her,” he said during the chat after addressing his personal journey with anxiety. “Like in terms of, you know, I can do things, and I can achieve things, and I can overcome things. And you can do this too. And to let things like, you know, a feeling stop you from doing that after having a child feels like a really small thing.”

“Like I feel like I’ve like had to step up, you know, as, as as a man or just, you know, as a person and be this example to her that doesn’t succumb to these feelings. That’s why I’m even doing this interview. You know, like I used to get a lot of anxiety around like having a conversation like this just in this kind of environment. And I want her to be able to look at me and be like, ‘Yo, my dad’s doing this, you know, he’s the man. He’s cool,” he went on to say.
