Jasmine Harman insists Jonnie Irwin is ‘valued’ as A Place In The Sun wins award

A Place In The Sun pay tribute to Jonnie Irwin

A Place In The Sun’s Jasmine Harman took the opportunity to tell her former co-presenter Jonnie Irwin “how much your contribution to the show over the years is enormously valued” after the Channel 4 show won a TRIC Award today.

The programme collected the award for Best Daytime show at the prestigious awards ceremony held at Grosvenor House, London.

The show previously won the award back in 2008 when both Jasmine and Jonnie presented it together. Jasmine, 47, penned on Instagram to her 130,000 followers: “Throwback to 2008 when @jonnieirwintv and I collected the TRIC award for Best Daytime programme.

“THRILLED to announce that today, A Place in the Sun was once again awarded this prestigious title; unfortunately, I couldn’t be there as I’m away filming, but I am overflowing with gratitude to all the viewers and people who took the time to vote.”

Jonnie looked in high spirits as he attended the award ceremony alongside his Escape to the Country co-stars.

The presenter is bravely battling terminal cancer following his diagnosis with lung cancer back in 2020.

Earlier this year, Jonnie tragically revealed that the cancer has since spread to his brain.

He was joined by his co-stars Nicki Chapman, 56, Jules Hudson, 53 and Sonali Shah, 42, as they threw their support behind him.

However, it may have been bittersweet for Jonnie as he watched A Place In The Sun win the award – as he had to leave the show after revealing his terminal cancer diagnosis.

Jonnie previously revealed he was “heartbroken” when his contract wasn’t renewed with Free Form Productions – who make the programme. A spokesperson said they were “unable to secure adequate insurance cover” for Jonnie to continue international filming amid the Covid crisis.

The show beat This Morning to the award at the ceremony, which recognises the very best talent across television, radio and online shows.
